Due to its good climate and rich soils, Taichung City breeds many high quality agricultural products, among which loquat fruits from the Taobian (頭汴) mountainous area in Taiping District and the Taoquai (頭櫃) and Erquai (二櫃) region and the Dakeng mountainous area in Xinshe District are the most attractive and desirable.
Loquat fruits are high-value cash crops, whose cultivated areas are 765 hectares in Taichung City (of which 442 hectares are in Xinshe District and 257 hectares in Taiping District) and whose annual production is 5,151 tons, ranking 1st in the country, and whose production ranges from mid-February to early April. The "Taiping Tianyuan Loquat (太平甜園枇杷)" is cultivated in Taobian mountainous area. The Xinshe District’s “Hongxi Loquat (虹溪枇杷)” is cultivated in the Taoquai and Erquai region at an altitude of 800-1,000 meters high, where it is foggy frequently and the temperature varies greatly between day and night, a place rated as the most suitable for planting loquats. As a result, the fruits of Hongxi Loquat are comparatively big, look attractive, and taste unique with sweetness rating at 11 degrees. The highly acclaimed Hongxi Loquat is the best choice of consumers all the time.
To promote loquat fruits and other agricultural products produced in Taichung area, the Agriculture Bureau of Taichung City Governmenthas been holding a series of promotion events since March at National Chin-Yi University of Technology, Banqiao District Farmers Association, Taipei Hope Square, and Taiping Stadium. A press conference to promote loquat fruits was also held near the Baifuk Bridge in Taiping District at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18. In addition to recommending the year's best loquat fruits to Taichung citizens, this press conference also featured a series of performances, free games, loquat dessert DIY, agricultural products exhibition, quiz contests, and loquat dolls. Many exquisite small gifts were given out as well!
People across the country are urged to buy and taste the best loquat fruits of the year. “You cannot afford to miss this annual event,” said our colleagues at the Agriculture Bureau.
