The Transportation Bureau of Taichung City Government endeavors to provide diverse transportation services and concern for the basic transportation rights of inhabitants in remote areas. It will start to operate the first “taxi-bus” route – Yellow 1 (Fengyuan – Fengyuan Stadium) in the city on April 1. It is a kind of taxi service operated by appointment, providing people with free rides and upgrading its existing bus services.

Director Wang Yi-chuan of the Bureau of Transportation expressed that the bodies of those “taxi-buses” will be painted with special pictures to allow people to recognize them at a glance. On the bus stops, the time table of these taxi buses will be added, and its phone number (04)2436-6666 will be posted. In addition, the Bureau of Transportation will produce pamphlets to promote this service. In addition to helping people learn how to takes these taxi-buses, the government also demands the operators to provide the best quality services.

The “Taxi-Bus” runs from Fengyuan Bus on Sanmin Road, via Matsu Temple, Fengyuan Hospital, Fengyuan Senior High School, to Fengyuan Stadium. The buses depart from Sanmin Road daily at 9:50am, 1:20pm, 2:10pm; and from Fengyuan Stadium daily on 10:15am, 1:45pm, and 2:35pm.

The Bureau of Transportation expressed that although the “taxi-buses” operate on a regular schedule, due to its limited capacity, it can take 3 to 4 passengers each time. It suggests passengers make an appointment at least one day in advance to provide the transportation team time to arrange vehicles. If there are too many people making an appointment, the operator will arrange more taxi-buses to provide passengers with convenient transportation services.

The Bureau of Transportation pointed out that replacing bus services with flexible taxi-bus services, it can serve elderly people, disabled people, or people carrying large luggage better. It is expected to create and triple-win situation for the people, taxi companies, and Taichung City Government. The new “taxi-bus” service will be opened for appointment on March 30.
