The director of April Rain chose to set in Taichung to re-present the past glory of the military dependants’ village – Guangfu New Village in Wufeng

At present the “Sù-kùi-âng” (Red Throughout the Four Seasons) the fourth episode of the TV series April Rain is shooting in Guangfu New Village in Wufeng, Taichung. The drama is about the stories happened in this military dependents’ village in 1967. The Information Bureau, Taichung City Government and The Motion Picture Foundation helped coordinate for many times to allow the film crew to re-present the scenes of the military dependents’ village at that time. On the condition of not damaging the original architectures, original materials were used to restore it vantage look. It not only maintains it cultural landscape but also re-presents the nostalgic charm of the setting. The Chief Secretary of the Information Bureau Lin Shang-shian expressed that the weather in Taichung is fine, with ideal geographical location. The Bureau will provide the best service to the film crew to facilitate its smooth shooting. He would like to congratulate the “Sù-kùi-âng” (Red Throughout the Four Seasons) in advance that it is going to be a great success when it releases in October. He also hopes the drama can allow people to see the past glory of Guangfu New Village.

Located by 921 Earthquake Museum Taiwan, Guangfu New Village was refurbished with the funds from Taichung City Government. Being nostalgic, the park is restored into a creative cultural cluster for young people. It has not only become a holy land for young people to sign up but also attracts many production crews to film there. The fourth episode of the April Rain, is produced by Lin Fu-di, a “National Treasure and Senior Director in Taiwan” and directed by Lee You-ning, a “senior Golden Horse Award Director.” Insisted by the director, he chose Guanfu New Village to be the setting of “Sù-kùi-âng.”

Lin Shang-shian, the Chief Secretary of the Information Bureau accompanied Lin Ying-zhi, the CEO of The Motion Picture Foundation of Taichung to visit the film crew and treated them with iced beverages and sandwiches on the 21st. Chief Secretary Lin expressed that although it is a TV drama series only, it is shot in the manner of a feature film. With the best setting and the best director, actresses, actors, and equipment, he would like to congratulate in advance that it will be a great success when it releases.

Chief Secretary Lin also mentioned that the weather in Taichung is fine and the location is ideal. No wonder many film crews choose to have their film set in Taichung. To take the setting of a military dependents’ village as example, directors will find Guangfu New Village in Taichung is preserved in the best conditions after visiting many settings of similar kinds in Taiwan. The streets and houses there are particularly charming. Moreover, there are many scenes in Taichung that can become ideal settings for films and dramas, and the Motion Picture Foundation will provide the best collaboration in film shooting to accelerate their progresses.

Director Lee You-ning expressed his gratitude to the Information Bureau, Taichung City Government and the Motion Picture Foundation for the enthusiastic help. He also praised that Taichung City has contributed greatly in preserving its history and culture. He furthered this drama intends to re-present the charm of the military dependents’ village at that time, it is shot in the manner of a feature film. The director has visited many military dependents’ village throughout Taiwan, he finds Guangfu New Village in Wufeng, Taichung to be the best location. He particularly likes the neat and regular streets saluted by trees at both sides, and the nostalgic bus stops at the road side. All in all, it is very nostalgic.

The Information Bureau pointed out that Guangfu New Village attracts many film crews to shoot films there, including the renowned director Wang Toon’s Where the Wind Settles, an epic with the budget of NT$160 million, A Touch of Green, the drama series that won 6 Golden Bell Awards, and the idol drama Love, Timeless that has complete releasing recently, and more. Simply speaking, it has become the most favorite settings of many directors.

The Central Taiwan Film Studio that will be completed next year will be the first film studio that is government-owned and private-operated in Taiwan. According to the plan, there will be the wave pool, deep water pool, and the two biggest indoor studios, and a medium size studio, and filming equipment presented by the renowned director Lee Ang will be placed there. At present, the progress is going ahead and implemented smoothly. Following the OT enterprise soliciting patterns, it will become a huge professional studio in Taiwan, resided and operated by the Central Motion Picture Company. With the ideal climate, geographic location, and diverse landscapes in Taichung and the assistance of the Motion Picture Foundation of Taichung, it will attract more film crews to have Taichung as the setting in their works.

“Sù-kùi-âng” is scheduled to be released in October, with Yolin Lian as the lead female role, and Sean Pai, a mixed blood model as the lead male role. The story is told from the perspective of a CIA officer from America. The story begins with this American officer that is arranged to shoot some photos in a military dependents’ village, and befriends with some young people there.
