The theme song of 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival Tonight We'll Be Fine was unveiled today (11/22)! With lyrics and chords composed by The Chairs, the recipient of the 30th Golden Melody Awards in the Best Group category. Formed by a group of local young artists, The Chairs has incorporated Taichung elements such as pearl milk tea, resplendent night scenery, and the riverbank of Luchuan Canal and Liuchuan Canal into the song's lyrics. Saxophone chords woven into the fabric of the music also correspond with Houli, the hometown of saxophone, and also the primary venue of the lantern festival, inviting tourists from domestic and abroad to visit Taichung to appreciate lanterns!
Taichung City Information Bureau hosted the 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival press conference at the Taichung City Hall on Taiwan Boulevard today, where 3 young artists from The Chairs including Chiu Yung-Ching, Chen Chung-Ying, and Sun Pa-Yuen staged their first public performance and unveiled the MV for the theme song of the lantern festival. The playful animation style MV features images of Taichung's landscapes and the lantern festival exhibition area complemented by soft, sprightly melodies. Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen also bobbed her head and swayed along to the rhythm of the music.
Mayor Lu exclaimed 'such fantastic music!" As the countdown to the 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival begins, the city government has invited the pride of Taichung and the recipient of Golden Melody Awards in the Best Group category – The Chairs – to create the lantern festival's theme song Tonight We'll Be Fine, symbolizing Taichung's boundless possibilities and inviting everyone to come to the city to admire lanterns on behalf of the city government and Taichung citizens.
According to producer Huang Jung-I, he is privileged to be able to compose the theme song for the 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival, and he hopes to extend his invitation to the general public to attend the grand event through music. Therefore, he has infused elements such as saxophone, wind music, trumpet, and trombone into his musical composition. On the other hand, he also included Taichung's unique features such as pearl milk tea as well as the riverside sceneries of Luchuan Canal and Liuchuan Canal into the lyrics in order to embody Taichung City's magnificence by applying the highest standards.
The Chairs band member Chiu Yung-Ching expressed that she has incorporated numerous interesting elements into the music to liven up the overall vibe; she hopes that not only to dedicate the song to the Taiwan Lantern Festival but also to evoke associations with people's lives. Chen Chung-Ying mentioned that elements such as saxophone, wind music, trumpet, trombone, and chorus were infused into the music to resonate with the fact that Houli, the exhibition venue of the lantern festival, is also home to Taiwan's world-renowned saxophone industry. Sun Pa-Yuen said that ingenuity was applied to composing the base guitar chords in an effort to accentuate the beat of the music.
The Information Bureau indicated that Chiu Yung-Ching, Chen Chung-Ying, and Sun Pa-Yuen are guitar enthusiasts of the TCFSH Folk Guitar Club.
