Wuri South Transit Station
The Taichung MRT Green Line began its formal run on April 25th and to incorporate with the use of Xin Wuri Station of the Taiwan Railway as the gate platform for the Taiwan High Speed Rails (THSR), the Taiwan Railway, the Taichung MRT and city buses, the Taichung City Government chronologically started the use of Wuri South Transit Station adjacent to the Xin Wuri Station and Gaote East 1st Rd. In addition to the existing five routes that stops at Xin Wuri Station, seven bus services lines for the coastal and the Tun area (Dali, Taiping, and Wufeng) were added after adjustment to encourage the public to ride a city bus.
Director General of the Transportation Bureau, Yeh Chao-Fu, pointed out that in recent years, more and more city bus lines stop at the Transit Floor of the Taichung THSR Station and the Platform was reaching its full capacity. During rush hours, traffic jams often negatively influence transit efficiency. After the formal run of the Taichung MRT Green Line, the THSR Taichung Station and Xin Wuri Station of Taiwan Railway were expected to become important traffic nodes in the Greater Taichung area.
Thus, to improve overall transit service efficiency of the tri-track systems, Wuri South Transit Station on Gaote East 1st Rd. was planned and buses of seven lines that originally stopped at the Taichung THSR Station including 3,39, 93, 101, 102, 133 and 617 to the coastal and Tun areas (Dali, Taiping, and Wufeng) were now adjusted to stop at the Wuri South Transit Station. With the measure to divert traffic flow, the public will recognize these routes better and service efficiency on the Transit Floor of the Taichung THSR station will be improved.
The Bureau described that after the said adjustment, transit convenience of the MRT and Taiwan Railway will be improved and about 20% traffic of city buses can be reduced on the Transit Floor inside the THSR Station. The Bureau will also conduct a rolling review on the use of Wuri South Transit Station and evaluate the provision of more bus lines.
The Bureau added that in order to improve transit efficiency of the Wuri South Transit Station, bus stop pavilions were planned in Area A, B and C to divert traffic flow which allow bus stops, respectively, heading for the coastal area and Changhua; Dali, Taiping, and Wufeng; and downtown Taichung and Lingdong. The public was asked to go to the designated areas for their buses. Additionally, to inform the public of bus route adjustments, city bus operators were asked to conduct more promotions. If there is any question, please call the service hotline for citizens in Taichung at 1999 or use Taichung City Bus app and the dynamic information system of Taichung City Bus( http://citybus.taichung.gov.tw/cms/ ).
