Since its unveiling last December, Taichung Art Museum’s inaugural exhibition “A Call of All Beings” has drawn wide attention. Through diverse creative works, the exhibition responds to the relationships between humans and all beings, and between nature and the city. This spring, the Taichung Art Museum will continue to present a series of public programs including sound performances, workshops, and performance art. These programs include sound works by renowned musician Lim Giong that incorporate field elements, as well as participatory projects in which international artists engage with local communities, demonstrating the energy created where art and everyday life meet and inviting audiences to enter the artistic experience and bring art into daily life.
Taichung Art Museum stated that the independent publication Subconscious Restaurant, which has long focused on contemporary sound art, will, at the invitation of curator Alaina Claire Feldman, stage an outdoor sound performance on March 7 at the semi outdoor rooftop garden “Cultural Forest” of the Taichung Green Museumbrary. Renowned Taiwanese musician Lim Giong will present a DJ set that blends electronic sound with field recording elements, using richly layered sonic textures to respond to memories of the land and the rhythms of the city; also performing are Fu-Jui Wang, Yen-Ting Hsu, Wei-DeTsai, Shi-Chao Lai, and performance artist Hanasaki Kaya from Tokyo, creating an immersive listening experience in a setting surrounded by the greenery of Central Park.
Taichung Art Museum noted that the Filming a Community Together: Community Creation Workshop, held from March 10 to 14, will be led by the Romanian and British artist duo Irina Botea Bucan and Jon Dean, who will travel to Taiwan to lead the workshop. The program uses the communities surrounding Taichung Art Museum as its creative site. Through observation, writing, sound making, and movement based performance, it guides participants to explore the connections among community, place, and history. The outcomes will be presented in a 16 mm black and white film, enabling the public to take part in the process of artistic creation and reflecting the spirit of cultural equity and public participation.
On March 28, Hsiu-Yi Chu and Yu-Ju Chen (Her Lab Space) will present the promenade performance Once Upon a Unicorn, combining sound, imagery, and movement based performance to lead audiences through the exhibition galleries and outdoor spaces and, through narrative, reconsider history, nature, and cultural identity. The exhibition lecture series on April 3 will feature Professor Junghee Moon in conversation with artist Professor Ava Hsueh and Professor Chen-Hui Lee on the theme “Women’s Abstraction in the Postwar Era,” exploring how women artists, through abstract creation, shaped their artistic language and self positioning within historical contexts.
Taichung Art Museum Director Lai I hsin added that, starting March 10, a series of performance art programs will take place in the first floor public spaces of the Taichung Green Museumbrary. C’est la Vie du Taiwan presents a one month performance art program. Performance artist Ch'i min Tseng creates in response to the daily low tide schedule, presenting an interweaving of Indigenous culture and contemporary art; on March 29, the performance art collective TIAN GROUP, formed by artists Te-Feng Ko and Hsiu-Hui Kao, will present The Faraway on the Mobius Ring, integrating elements of painting, installation, and movement based performance. April 12 is the final day of the exhibition.TIAN GROUP will present a joint performance with the C’est la Vie du Taiwan, bringing “A Call of All Things” to a fulfilling conclusion through cross-team collaboration.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government stated that the Taichung Art Museum, as an important cultural landmark in Taichung, continues to deepen public participation and urban dialogue through interdisciplinary artistic initiatives. “A Call of All Beings” is not only an exhibition, but also a cultural practice spanning sound, image, body, and community, turning the museum into an open space for citizens to share and co-create. The public is sincerely invited to visit the Taichung Art Museum this spring and experience Taichung’s contemporary cultural landscape amid an atmosphere where art and nature intertwine.
