Q: What is the review process for designating historic sites or registering historic buildings?
A:
1. Owners of buildings prepares the “Taichung City Historic Site or Historic Building Designation and Registration Application Form” and submits it to the Cultural Heritage Department of Taichung City.
2. In accordance with the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act, the competent authority will conduct an on-site inspection to assess the cultural heritage value. Experts and scholars specializing in historic sites and historic buildings will evaluate its value, after which the case will be submitted to the city's Monuments, Historic Buildings, Commemorative Buildings, Groups of Buildings, Archaeological Sites, and Cultural Landscapes Review Committee for deliberation.
3. The city’s Monuments, Historic Buildings, Commemorative Buildings, Groups of Buildings, Archaeological Sites, and Cultural Landscapes Review Committee will decide whether to designate the site as a historic site or register it as a historic building.
4. The competent authority will officially announce the designation of the historic site or the registration of the historic building.
