Taichung: Will Seek East Asian Youth Games Hosting Contract and EAOC For Solution

Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung announced to make appeal at EAOC (East Asian Olympic Committee) regarding the revocation of their right to host a youth games. On media’s questioning the regulations and appeal procedure of EAOC, “there is an article on resolutions to disputes in the hosting contract of the youth games,” says Information Bureau Director Zhuo Guan-ting, “and that since EAOC is under International Olympic Committee, city government shall seek solution within laws and according to the Committee’s regulation, as well as based on the contract.”

When the city government won the right to host EAYG (East Asian Youth Games) back in 2014, the signed contract has included regulation on solving disputes. Article 24 mentions that “any dispute based on the Contract should be resolved by harmonious consultation.” City government will appeal via this channel to protect the participation right of the athletes. There was false to say that there is no measure on appeal method, added Zhuo.

Zhuo indicated that the Legislation Bureau is working on the appeal process and will be making proposal tomorrow; International arbitration or litigation suggested by scholars and experts will be considered.

By appeal, it indicates the request of peaceful solution by city government, says Legislation Bureau, has nothing to do with “regulation lack of appeal procedure”.

Director Zhuo denounced the violent and abrupt cancelation of the 1st EAYG and Taichung’s right to host it without giving the hosting city an opportunity to declare the incident. The city government proposed re-examination and review the inappropriate procedure of EAOC.

The city government will not give up any possibility to provide young athletes the chance to grab the entry ticket, and expect our people to unite,” per Director Zhuo, “to support the young Athens.
