Rolling Increase of Taichung City Bus Trips for the First Week of a New Semester

High, vocational high, junior high and elementary schools began their new semester on September 1st and after listening to the opinions from various fields, the Taichung City Transportation Bureau reviewed bus routes of high demands and found increased ridership in the first week of the new semester by more than 35%. Although that accounted for only 62% of ridership before the pandemic, in consideration of the convenience of bus riders, since September 3rd, the Bureau continuously increased bus trips of Line 3, 23, 90, 90 Extension, 92, 202, 206, 207, 208, 213, 216, 232, 265, 270, 276, 289 and 821 and will conduct rolling reviews on bus trips according to ridership and development of the pandemic.
Director General of the Transportation Bureau, Yeh Chao-Fu, said according to statistics, since the new semester began, 8,200 public bus trips were provided daily with smooth operations and stable ridership. At present, daily ridership reached more 190,000 people times, a growth by more than 35% than that of the week before the new semester. That ridership accounted for only 62% of that before the pandemic but the Bureau will continuously listen to opinions from various fields to conduct rolling reviews on bus frequencies and trips to avoid crowds during peak hours and to provide high quality public transportation services.
Director General Yeh pointed out that to better serve students and the elderly for them to go to school or go see a doctor. The Bureau coordinated with Fengyuan Bus and Ubus to add more bus trips of Line 3, 23, 90, 90 Extension, 92, 202, 206, 207, 208, 213, 216, 232, 265, 270, 276, 289 and 821 with the additional provision of 55 bus trips for the convenience of riders.
The Bureau reminded that for relevant bus information, please log on to the website of "Taichung City Real-time Bus Dynamic Information" ( https://citybus.taichung.gov.tw/ebus ) or download the "Taichung Bus" app ( https://is.gd/MTPvdg ). Additionally, pandemic prevention measures are continuously implemented. According to the guidance of the Central Epidemic Command Center(CECC), after the extension of Level 2, face masks shall be worn when going out, real-name registration shall be conducted, safe social distancing shall be kept. No drinking or dining is allowed on buses for the provision of better and after riding environment in public transportation.
