Taichung City Won “World Festival & Event City Award.” The President of IEFA Appreciated the Charm of Taichung City.

Taichung City’s efforts to develop itself into a “Festival and Event City” are recognized internationally, which makes Taichung City won “2018 World Festival & Event City Award” given by International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA). On October 1 of American Time, Taichung City Government was awarded along with other global festival and event cities, including Sydney of Australia, Philadelphia of United States, Ottawa of Canada, and Moscow of Russia. Deputy Secretary-General of Taichung City Government, Xianyi Lee, was the representative of the award ceremony to receive the award. During the ceremony, President of IFEA, Steven Wood Schmader said that through the video, he could feel the charm of Taichung City and see the rich humanities, cultures, and landscapes of Taichung as well as the wonderful festivals throughout the year. He will definitely visit Taichung if he has a chance.

According to Taichung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau, this year’s IFEA award ceremony took place in San Diego of California, U.S.A. Deputy Secretary-General, Xinayi Lee, and Chief Secretary of Cultural Affairs Bureau, Yishan Yang, are the representatives of Taichung City Government to attend the ceremony and gave an invitation letter from Mayor, Chia-Lung Lin, to President of IEFA, Mr. Schmader to invite him to visit Taiwan for 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition. Mr. Schmader represented IFEA and signed the Declaration of Taichung during the ceremony. Mr. Schmader expressed his support for Taichung World Flora Exposition and sent his best wishes for a successful exposition. There were about 1,000 attendees in the award ceremony, and the organizer also introduced the awarded city one by one.

Chief Secretary, Ms. Yang, said that the multicultural festivals held in Taichung City not only satisfies the life needs of residents but also presents the characteristics of different ethnic groups as well as urban and rural areas, which reshapes and innovates the local values and promotes international exchange. All of this shapes Taichung City with a romantic, diverse, dynamic, and creative city image.

Cultural Affairs Bureau pointed out that Taichung City Government actively promotes cultural equity and arts in rural areas with the goal of creating Taichung City becoming a city of festivals. This time when Taichung City participated in the award selection, Taichung City Government particularly showed wonderful festivals and event held in Taichung throughout the year, including Taichung Mazu International Festival, Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival, Ciao Sheng Sian Shih Cultural Festival, Taichung Jazz Festival, Taichung Arts Festival, and Taichung International Dance Parade & Festival. The winning of “2018 World Festival & Event City Award” this time means that Taichung City Government’s efforts are recognized, and Taichung City makes itself an international city, which is believed to be helpful for increasing Taichung City’s international reputation and visibility and attracts more international tourists.

Since its establishment in 1956, International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) has existed for more than 60 years and is a platform for sharing festivals and events around the world. IFEA’s headquarter is in Idaho of United States with many branches across the globe. Since 2010, IFEA began to give “World Festival & Event City Award” to cities around the world to promote international festivals and tourism. The award-winning cities can participate in international meetings and exhibitions, and IFEA will assist in international marketing.
