Taichung International Airport is Taiwan's fourth-busiest international
air facility after Taoyuan, Kaohsiung and Taipei's airports, and among
the nation's fastest-growing, with current plans calling for the completion
of a new international terminal by 2014. Taichung's civilian airport facilities
are located on the western (coastal) side of Ching Chuan Kang (CCK)
Air Force Base, about 20 kilometers from downtown Taichung.
ZhongQing Road is the main link from Taichung's Beitun and
Daya districts to the airport, which is also conveniently located
within a kilometer of the National North-South Freeway No. 3's Shalu (district) exit.
Taichung's airport currently has regular international flight connections to Hong Kong,
Ho Chi Minh City and a variety of mainland Chinese cities, including Shanghai,
Hangzhou, Xiamen, Ningbo, Wuhan and Shenyang, as well as seasonal charters
to destinations in Japan, South Korea and elsewhere. There are also
regularly-scheduled domestic flights between Taichung and the offshore
islands of Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu, as well as Hualien city. Airlines serving
Taichung include Mandarin, Hong Kong Express, UNI, TransAsia, Shandong,
and Xiamen. International air services, expected to continue growing, include
regularly scheduled chartered flights between Taichung and South Korea, plus
special charter flights to other destinations, including Southeast Asia. Regular, non-charter international passenger and cargo services are planned for the future. To accomodate this growth, a new international terminal is planned for completion by 2014.
Taichung International Airport is located at 42, Zhong Qing Rd. in Shalu District and may be contacted at (04) 2615-5000 for information. For updated flight schedules and other information, visit the Taichung Airport Website at: www.tca.gov.tw
Thanks to the Taiwan High Speed Rail (HSR) system, Taichung is also conveniently linked to Taiwan's main air gateway at Taoyuan International Airport. Trains depart the Taichung HSR Station for Taoyuan station--a 40-minute ride--about every 30 minutes between about 7 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. (check www.thsrc.com.tw for timetables). From the Taoyuan HSR station, there is a frequent 10-minute shuttle bus to the Taoyuan airport.
