Traffic Violations & Fines

Some common traffic violations and fines (subject to periodic change) include:

-Failure to wear a helmet on a motorcycle: NT$500

-Failure by car driver and/or front-seat passenger to wear a seatbelt on regular roads: NT$1,500

-Failure by car driver and/or front-seat passenger to wear a seatbelt on freeway: NT$3,000 to NT$6,000

-Speaking on a mobile phone while driving a car: NT$3,000

-Children not secured in a car seat: NT$500

-Leaving children under the age of 6 alone in car: NT$1,000 and a mandatory 4-hour lecture

-Failure to yield to school buses: NT$600 to NT$1,800

-Illegal parking: NT$900

-Car with installed radar detectors (which are illegal): NT$1,200 to NT$2,400

-Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs: NT$15,000 to NT$60,000 and possible revocation of driver's license
