New policy continues to reap benefits! Number of Taichung flora expo visitors exceeds the 6 million mark – Mascots make a surprise appearance to hand out souvenirs

The number of Taichung flora expo visitors has exceeded the 6 million mark! Since opening in 2018, Taichung World Flora Expo has attracted visitors from far and wide. In response to the new city administration's policy, the 6 millionth visitors appeared in Waipu Park Area this afternoon (17th). Mr. Kuo from Yingge District, New Taipei City, and his wife traveled to Taichung during the holiday, and the lucky couple became the flora expo's 6 millionth visitors on their first visit. Park Director Yuen-he Chen presented them with the Leo doll on behalf of the park, while mascots Leo and Omi Horse also made a surprise appearance, bringing laughter all round. Furthermore, festivities were held currently in Fengyuan Huludun Park Expo Site and Houli Horse Ranch & Forest Expo Site to celebrate the joy of exceeding the 6 million mark in terms of the number of visitors for the Taichung flora expo.

Taichung flora expo continues to draw visitors from across the globe. After Mayor Shiow-yen Lu assumed office, the city hall changed its policy to allow Taichung citizens, new residents, and children under the age of 12 from around the world attend the flora expo free of charge starting from January 1 this year; all they have to do is present their national ID cards, resident certificates, and passports respectively. As a result, the flora expo has begun to reap the economic benefits. Since the city hall invited Chia-li Pai as the flora expo's spokesperson, she has successfully generated buzz and an influx of tourists; in addition, distinguished Japanese photographer Mika Ninagawa not only held her flower-themed solo exhibition at the Blossom Pavilion in Houli Horse Ranch & Forest Expo Site but also recently made an appearance in Taichung to introduce her creations, in turn attracting a large number of flora expo visitors. Today, the flora expo has achieved a milestone with the exceeding of the 6 million mark in terms of the number of visitors.

According to the ticketing center's estimate, the number of visitors to the flora expo is expected to surpass the 6 million mark today, therefore officials from the city hall were stationed at Houli Horse Ranch & Forest Expo Site, Waipu Expo Site, and Fengyuan Huludun Park Expo Site to welcome the 6 millionth visitors, who turned out to be Mr. Kuo from Yingge District, New Taipei City, and his wife. The lucky coupled entered the flora expo via the Waipu Expo Site, where park Director Yuen-he Chen presented them with the Leo doll souvenir from the Leopard Cat Family, the mascots of flora expo.

According to Mr. Kuo, he and his wife traveled from northern Taiwan to Taichung during the holiday to attend the flora expo, little did he realize that they had become the 6 millionth visitors when they arrived at the Waipu Expo Site after visiting the Houli Forest Expo Site, so they felt truly surprised and honored.
Mrs. Kuo commented that she had never been so lucky before, and she was thrilled and impressed with the one-day tour in Taichung.

Information Bureau Director-General Huang-sheng Wu stated that the city hall will continue to market flora expo by applying diverse strategies. Recently, Chia-li Pai - a celebrity who has lived abroad for a long time - was appointed the spokesperson and the goodwill ambassador of Taichung flora expo. It is hoped to capitalize on her popularity domestic and abroad to attract more people to visit the flora expo and successfully generate an influx of tourists.

Director-General Wu also indicated that since Mayor Shiow-yen Lu assumed office, Taichung citizens, new residents, and children under the age of 12 from around the world may attend the flora expo free of charge starting from January 1 this year by presenting relevant documentation, the new policy has gained popularity and support from the public. The flora expo will be open until April 24 this year, everyone should take the opportunity to participate in the event in order to appreciate the charisma of Taichung and the flora expo.
