Initial Consensus of Trade and Economic Exchanges Reached during Taichung City Government's Visit to Quanzhou and Xiamen

In order to promote economic cooperation across the Strait, Deputy Mayor Bruce J.D. Linghu today (20th) led his delegation to visit the Taiwanese businessmen investment area in Quanzhou (Urban Planning Exhibition Hall) and Xiamen Urban Planning Exhibition Hall to understand local urban developments and future overall planning. The delegation also participated in a seminar organized by the Quanzhou People's Government. Both sides reached initial consensus towards economic and trade exchanges. Additionally, the Taichung City Government will further propose to set up a Taichung Commodity Sales and Exhibition Center at the Quanzhou Comprehensive Bonded Area with the aim to “assist agricultural produce and relevant industries of Taichung City to lower their costs, improve competitiveness, and successfully enter the Mainland market.”

Deputy Mayor Linghu today led the delegation of the Taichung City Government that arrived in Quanzhou and Xiamen. At the Taiwanese businessmen investment area in Quanzhou (Urban Planning Exhibition Hall), the Secretary of the local working committee, Wu Hanzuan, was presenting the overall development planning. Deputy Mayor Linghu said from Quanzhou's historical heritage preservation and development, urban comprehensive planning, ecological belt development, industrial development, public services, comprehensive transportation and infrastructure, the delegation got to know the development process, current status, and future development of Quanzhou and experienced Quanzhou's rich historical cultural contents and city features as well as future development.

When talking with Wang Yongfeng, the Mayor of Quanzhou City People's Government, at the seminar, Deputy Mayor Linghu said Taichung City Government would like to work with the Quanzhou City Government to lease an area of about 50,000 square meters under an incentive initiative for sales and exhibition of Taichung's high quality products including the wholesales of aquaculture products, meat, and fresh fruit. Both sides discussed an initial cooperation model to plan to work with local logistics business organizations with the aim to assist the industries in Taichung to quickly enter the Mainland market.

At the Xiamen Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, the delegation had a guide/interpreter.   The Exhibition Hall uses light box, models, and film to present exhibition contents. They were supplemented with modern technologies such as illustrations, digital interaction, multimedia search system, and digital sand table. The development history, current achievements and future directions of Xiamen urban planning are comprehensively introduced.

Bureau of Economic Development added that Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen via “Rich Taichung City 3,” front stores, backyard factory, and free port to promote Taichung's industrial development to “sell Taichung's goods and earn money for Taichung.” The Taichung City Government is now actively proposing the establishment of a Taichung Commodity Sales and Exhibition Center inside the Quanzhou Comprehensive Bonded Area to bring a “front store” there to be more accessible and be more to Quanzhou citizens. In addition to direct sales to people in China, Taichung's commodities can also be exported to China.

Furthermore, Taichung's high quality products can be sold and Taichung can be marketed.

According to the Bureau of Economic Development, “At present, we have reached initial consensus with the Mainland.” If the Taichung Commodity Sales and Exhibition Center can be successfully established inside the Quanzhou Comprehensive Bonded Area to incorporate a continuous connection to city governments in the Mainland and local enterprises and the presence of public bonded warehouse, import and export inspection sites, electronic sales, freezing and frozen facilities, and logistic services are set up, Taichung products will enjoy lower barriers when entering the Quanzhou market, a big stride for economic development of Taichung.
