Taichung City's bus 242 and 248 have become operational on July 1. The former passes through Wuquan Station, Taichung Station, New Jianguo Market, Everan Hospital, Taiping Sports Square, and Dong Ping Elementary School, while the latter passes through Hsiuping University of Science and Technology, Taichung Software Park, and THSR Taichung Station. Both are electric low-floor passenger buses, making transferring from Taiwan Railways to THSR more convenient for the public.

According to Transportation Bureau Director General Chao-fu Yeh, bus 242 passes through important destinations such as Dong Ping Elementary School, Taiping Sports Square, Everan Hospital, New Jianguo Market, Taichung Station, Municipal Taichung Home Economics and Commercial High School, Cultural Heritage Park, National Library of Public Information, and Wuquan Station, as well as key thoroughfares including Leye Road, Dongping Road, and Yijiang Bridge in Taiping District, linking the South District, East District, and Taiping District, offering commuters and students traveling between Taiping and Taichung Station a new alternative. In addition, residents traveling from the South District and Taiping District to New Jianguo Market will also benefit from the convenience.

Meanwhile, bus 248 passes through Hsiuping University of Science and Technology, Ruicheng Elementary School, Taichung Software Park, Youth Senior High School, and THSR Taichung Station, making it more convenient for citizens from Taiping and Dali to reach THSR Taichung Station and Xinwuri Railway station, thereby increasing the transport convenience of Taichung Software Park, as well as the convenience of residents living along the route, whether they are commuters, students or holidaymakers transferring between the twin-rails service.

Director General Yeh suggested that the city hall has vigorously promoted the electric bus program, therefore electric low-floor buses are used for both routes. With 160 electric buses operating in the city, Taichung is ranked no.1 in the country. In addition, there are 23 electric bus routes citywide, including 9, 11, 12, 55, 74, 181, 199, 242, 248, 352, 354, 355, 356, 357, 359, A1, 701, 800, 811, 812, 813, 920, and 956. Citizens are able to board electric buses in downtown Taichung, Shalu, Qingshui, Longjing, Dajia, Waipu, Houli, Shengang, Tanzi, Dali, and Taiping.
