Creative Taichung Returns with a Vengeance and Formidable Lineup – Inviting Citizens to Appreciate Creative Lifestyle in Taichung

The Cultural Affairs Bureau held the 2019 Creative Taichung kick-off press conference on the first floor of Huizhong Building, Taichung City Hall today. Taichung's Hiei Studio opened the event with an energetic performance inspired by creative jazz dance, the city cup and exhibits from the designers to showcase the lifestyle-oriented creativity of Taichung. Their performance was complemented by 11 creative exhibition booths, and Cultural Affairs Bureau Director-General Ta-chun Chang announced the upcoming event with the guests through the kickoff ceremony.

Taichung City Hall hosts the Creative Taichung cultural and creative design exhibition every year, expressing Taichung's creative lifestyle through diverse themes and allowing the public to appreciate the charisma of local creativity!

This year, nearly 100 renowned designers and 1,000 market labels from domestic and abroad will be congregating at the FantasyStory Micro Cultural Cluster, Audit Village during September 21~October 6. A series of exciting activities such as exhibitions, outdoor installations, and markets will be designed inspired by the theme of Better Tomorrow. Bologna international illustrator Page Tsou and local illustrator BaNAna will be joining forces to unveil the Taichung City Cup for handmade beverages. Everyone is welcome to attend the event.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau explained that this year's Creative Taichung combines Taichung City's cultural and creative clusters such as FantasyStory Micro Cultural Cluster and Audit Village to design 11 "Open the Room to Creativity" creative exhibition booths by drawing inspiration from the theme of Better Tomorrow. The booths aim to present the unique features of Taichung's mountain, coastal, central, and urban areas from the sea level to an elevation of 3,868m, thereby embodying the fusion of Taichung's industries, technology, and cultural and creatives that will endow the citizens with a brighter future.

The 11 exhibition booths are Natural Taichung, Shopping Taichung, Art Taichung, Creative Taichung, Friendly Taichung, Happy Taichung, Colorful Taichung, Flavorsome Taichung, Fun Taichung, International Taichung, and Taichung Taichung.
Additionally, Taichung is the cradle of handmade beverages in Taiwan, therefore Bologna international illustrator Page Tsou, metalwork artist Ming-yu Hsiao, SDC, and local illustrator BaNAna have been invited to joint launch the limited edition Taichung City Cup for handmade beverages!

According to the Cultural Affairs Bureau, 2019 Creative Taichung sees well-known international brand SDC, outstanding emerging artisan Yu-jun Chou, renowned illustrators BaNAna and Chu-tien Liu, Japanese illustrator Isshin Kimura, seasoned metalwork artist Ming-yu Hsiao from central Taiwan, local cultural creatives promoter Chun-yen Chung, and local businesses such as Lobsang Group, Ton Horizon Design Team, ATSAI Brand Design, Indigo Dyeing House, and Gallery Chuan coming together to portray Taichung's exclusive creative lifestyle.

Masters' Lecture features curators and consultants of 2019 Creative Taichung including Wei-hsiung Chan, Chun-yen Chung, Tsung-ying Wu, Shu-chang Liao, Ming-yu Hsiao, and BaNAna to share their perspectives on Taichung's creative lifestyle.

Furthermore, outdoor installations such as A Bright Moon, Starry Night, and Pink Ball Pit will be erected at FantasyStory Micro Cultural Cluster and Audit Village, engendering a dreamlike ambiance in the crisp autumn night. In the holidays, nearly 1,000 market brands will take turn to make an appearance, with new brands being unveiled every week. The public is invited to partake in other activities such as the designer's party and alleyway cinema in order to experience creativity in Taichung.
