The Gaomei Wetland in Taichung is a popular destination, in an effort to improve quality in tourism, the city government has implemented traffic control during 14:00-20:00 at Meiti Street in the holidays between July 13 and September 29. Furthermore, only pedestrians are allowed inside the area, and shuttle bus service has been arranged, servicing nearly 5,000 passengers daily during the weekends to alleviate traffic congestion. In light of the overwhelming number of tourists for the upcoming National Day long weekend, the traffic control will be extended until the end of the holidays on October 13.
According to Transportation Bureau Director General Chao-fu Yeh, the National Day long weekend lasts 4 days, in order to prevent traffic congestion and illegal parking caused by a large number of tourists, the city government plans to extend the traffic control at Meiti Street until the end of the National Day long weekend, where only pedestrians are allowed inside the area, and shuttle bus service will be arranged to shuttle tourists between the Gaomei Wetland boardwalk and First/Second Parking Lot.
In addition, the existing bus service will reach destinations including Qingshui Train Station, THSR Taichung Station, Taichung Train Station, downtown Qingshui, Gaomei Wetland, Wuqi Fishing Harbor, and Mitsui Outlet Park, therefore tourists are encouraged to make use of public transport to visit coastal destinations.
The Transportation Bureau suggest that in order to improve Gaomei Wetland's recreational quality and to save the tourists from the pain of traffic congestion, they are advised to take bus 111, 178, 179 or 688 departing from Qingshui Train Station, bus 655 departing from THSR Taichung Station, or bus 309 departing from Taichung Train Station. A total of 116 buses are available daily. In addition, tour bus drivers can stop on the temporary bus parking area on Sanshun Rd. to offload the passengers before parking the empty bus at the Second Parking Lot.
