The "2020 On Daan Beach Sand Sculpture and Music Festival" organized by the Tourism and Travel Bureau of Taichung City began on July 12th at Daan Seaside Paradise. Under the theme of "Hi, Touring the World in Daan," this year, landmark landscapes of 13 countries across the five continents have been featured including the Kaminarimon Gate of the Sensoji Temple and the Tokyo Skytree of Japan, the Egyptian pyramids in Africa, the Sydney Opera House of Australia, Leaning Tower of Pisa of Italy in Europe and the Liberty Statue in America. Visitors can now enjoy all the landscapes around the world without going abroad!
The press conference for the promotion of the "Daan Sand Sculpture and Music Festival" was organized by the Tourism and Travel Bureau today and the Director General of the Bureau, Lin Shiau-chi, pointed out that this year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Festival with the year-on-year increase in the number of visitors. The Festival now has become one of the repeated and popular ocean activities in Taichung. Meanwhile, it is also the top choice for ocean recreational activities during summer for residents of Central Taiwan. Although this year, life has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, yet the sand sculpture event is still attractive. The first "Largest Co-construction Sand Sculpture in Central Taiwan" featuring fascinating Egyptian pyramids, Cleopatra and the Great Sphinx of Giza. Additionally, with the renovation, the new Daan Seaside Paradise is equipped with "the miniature ocean observatory platform" where spacious and magnificent sea scenes of Daan, the sand sculpture art exhibition area, Taichung's landmark landscapes such as Zhennan Temple, Lake Twin Pavilions, National Taichung Theater and the Luce Chapel can be appreciated!
Director General Lin also said that this year, the theme is especially planned as "Touring around the World" to invite visitors to see Taichung and the world's landmarks and cultural landscapes. Friendly barrier free wooden pathways have been installed for the convenience of the physically disadvantaged and baby carts. In addition to the 16-day exclusively beautiful art and sand sculpture exhibition, the "Daily Fun Visit" of postcards painting of the world's famous landscapes and parent-child sand sculpture DIY events are also introduced for family visitors.
Director General Lin welcomed visitors of all ages to go on to the 2-day tour to the"2020 On Daan Beach Sand Sculpture and Music Festival" for world sand sculpture viewing in Daan, beautiful sunset, beach activities, visiting the Ganghaiqian Historical Street and the seafood. On their way, visitors can also go to the Dajia Tieh-Chen Mountain, Cultural and Art Creative Museum, Worry Free Valley and tourism factories. They can also stay at the luxurious camping area on "Nayang Beach" just opened at the end of June or safe stay hotels in Jiaanpu; for Day 2, during their way back to home, they can visit the historical temple of Jiaanpu and purchase some local unique souvenirs.
Director General Lin also mentioned Daan Port was called "Screw Port" in the early times and was an important port on the west coast of Central Taiwan. With its flat beach, fine sand grains and blue sea water, this unique beautiful coast scene has been known for its wide beaches extending to hundreds of meters during low tie.
