To celebrate the Double Tenth National Birthday of the ROC, the Taichung MRT City Hall Station was especially "open" today (the 10th) for the public visit for the first time. Before 7:00 in the morning, there was a long queue. The Taichung Rapid Transit Corporation decided to begin the public visit 20 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. The event continued until 13:30 and attracted about 16,000 visitors. After their visit, visitors were impressed by the spacious and bright design of the Station as well as the beautiful MRT cars with high expectation on the commencement of the Taichung MRT operations.
The Taichung MRT is scheduled to begin its operations by the end of this year and the Taichung Rapid Transit Corporation organized its "first public visit" event at the City Hall Station on the birthday of the ROC to attract the public to visit the adjacent MRT station after participating in the national flag raising ceremony at City Hall. Many people were in the queue before 7:00. Due to its high popularity, the Taichung Rapid Transit Corporation decided to begin the pubic visit at 8:10 twenty minutes earlier than the scheduled time.
After the flag raising ceremony, Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen also arrived at the Station. According to Mayor Lu, the green line of Taichung MRT will be the first one to be operated by the end of this year. For the first public visit to the City Hall Station of the green line, visitors were excited and happy to visit the station and to ride on the MRT cars. They were all impressed by the clear route planning and comfort and convenience of the Station.
Additionally, Mayor Lu also took the opportunity to promote the protocols for riding the MRT including no food and drink, no smoking, and giving priority seats to those in need. She hopes that all citizens of Taichung can become the spokesmen of the Taichung MRT and visitors at the site echoed in agreement. They also expected the operating commencement of the Taichung MRT that marks the arrival of a new era in Taichung.
President of Taichung Mass Transit Cooperation, Lin Chih-Ying said the green line of the Taichung MRT is ready and the last mile of its operations is the inspection stage as conducted by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Executive Yuan. The Taichung Mass Rapid Transit Cooperation hopes that the inspection can be completed soon. Citizens in Taichung have been waiting for the MRT for more than a decade. Today’s public visit allowed citizens to visit the station facilities and MRT cars and positive feedbacks and supports were received. They also provided more feedbacks for better and more considerate services.
Mr. Chen, an office worker, said his office is on Wenxin Rd. He usually rides on a bike or a bus to work and in the future, he will shift to the MRT. Mr. Chen also said that in the beginning, he was concerned about the facilities of the Taichung MRT but after his visit, he found that there will be sufficient capacities to meet the needs of the citizens in Taichung.
Several visitors said the design of the station is bright and spacious and they all feel very happy about it visually. Ms. Liao spent more than six hours decorating the head of the MRT car with balloons in order to show her support for the Taichung MRT. Many visitors also came to have photos with her.
