Feasibility study complete for TMRT Orange Line – A total of 26 stations will be constructed

In addition to the completed TMRT Green Line and the Blue Line, which is still under planning, the airport MRT (Orange Line) has also completed its feasibility study report. Starting from the Taichung International Airport, the terminal station of the Orange Line is located near the Taiwan Provincial Consultative Council. There will be 26 stations along the 29.2km long Orange Line, featuring some underground and elevated sections. The plan is expected to be submitted to the "Taichung City Metro Construction Promotion Taskforce" for approval on March 5. After the plan is approved, administrative work will be expedited in preparation for submitting the plan to the MOTC for approval. According to Transportation Bureau Director General, Yeh Chao-Fu, the airport MRT has held numerous regional briefings last year to review engineering technology, price and external benefits. Featuring underground and elevated sections, the Orange Line begins at Taichung International Airport, passing through downtown Daya, Shuinan Economic and Trade Park, Yizhong Shopping District, Taichung Station, National Chung Hsing University and Taichung Software Park. The terminal station is located near the Taiwan Provincial Consultative Council. Costing approximately TWD 118.5 billion, there will be 26 stations along the 29.2km long Orange Line. Director General Yeh elaborated that the airport MRT is a vital transport infrastructure connecting Taichung International Airport, downtown Taichung and the central area, passing through thoroughfares such as Zhongqing Rd., Guoguang Rd. and Zhongxing Rd. In addition to the strong demand for public transport from hospitals, colleges and shopping districts along the line, development projects including the "Taichung International Airport 2035 Overall Plan," "Airport Park," "Shuinan Economic and Trade Park" and the "15th Redevelopment Zone" are expected to generate a large influx of people, hence the rapid transit system is planned in response to the transport needs of the airport and areas along the line.
