To support the “Bus in Campus” policy initiated by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for traffic safety concerns, Taichung City’s Route 301 will drive through Providence University starting from today (Mar 15th). Director General of Transportation Bureau Yeh Chao-Fu expresses that, to respond to the central government’s “Bus in Campus” policy, the Bureau has coordinated with Ubus to set up stops of Route 301 at the main gate, Providence Hall, and Jing Yuan Cafeteria of Providence University based on survey results from Providence University. The purpose is to facilitate students of Providence University to travel to and from the center of Taichung City while reducing the traffic accident rate. Director General of Transportation Bureau Yeh Chao-Fu indicates that Route 162 that reaches student rental areas outside the campus, Shalu Railway Station, Taichung International Airport, and other transfer stations already has stops at Providence University, nevertheless, to respond to the central government’s “Bus in Campus” policy, the Bureau further coordinated with Route 301, which had the “Providence University (Bus Line)” stop at the main gate of Providence University, to drive through the campus. This change not only enables teachers and students to go to Maple Garden, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi/ Top City, National Museum of Natural Science, and the Taichung Train Railway Station by taking Route 301 directly from campus, but also reduces the crowd at the intersections in front of the main gate. In the meantime, considering the space required by the driver to take a rest and wait for the departure time, the Bureau and Providence University have jointly surveyed the site and set up three bus parking lots on campus. The Bureau expresses that Route 301 will drive through Providence University starting from today. As Route 301 needs to switch from the exclusive bus lane of Taiwan Boulevard to the slow lane before reaching the University, Route 301 will no longer stop at “Providence University (Bus Line)” (bi-directional). Instead, for Providence University bound, Route 301 will stop at “Xiajinjiang” (a stop set at the slow lane), and after entering the campus it will then stop at “Providence University (Main Gate)”, “Providence Hall of Providence University”, and “Jing Yuan Cafeteria of Providence University”, which is the final stop; for Taichung Railway Station bound, it will depart from “Jing Yuan Cafeteria of Providence University”, leave the campus and directly drive in the exclusive bus lane of Taiwan Boulevard. Route 301 will have 67 trips on weekdays and 60 on weekends and holidays. Citizens with the need are welcome to use these services.
