Starting from 10:00 am on the 21st, parts of Taichung's seven administrative districts will face water outages for 47 hours until 9:00 am on the 23rd to support three projects of the Taiwan Water Corporation (TWC). TWC has dispatched 13 water trucks and installed 119 temporary water supply stations to cater to the public's urgent water needs. The city government has also requested the district chiefs to ask village clerks and heads in the affected areas to remind residents to store water in advance and to use the water supply station services during the water suspension period. Mayor Shiow-Yen Lu visited the temporary water supply station in the East District today and appealed to citizens to store water in advance. She also remind the city government's civil affairs and social welfare systems of bettering their care for residents with limited mobility and access to water.

According to Mayor Lu, the large-scale water outage is expected to impact around 1/3 of the population or 300,000 households across Taichung City. She thanked TWC for strengthening publicity. Moreover, the civil affairs system also assisted in promotion, with the city councilors helping draw the public’s attention. The city government will continue cooperating to remind users to store water in advance. She also reminded the public to turn off the pumping motor before the water outage to avoid idling and burning to cause disasters. Wait until the water restoring before turning it on. Besides, the water source switch should be turned off first lest excessive water pressure causes the water pipe to burst when the water supply is back on.

Mayor Lu also emphasized that some livelihood residences and business sites lack no water towers or pools to store water in advance. Consequently, TWC has set up 119 temporary water supply stations for the public during the water outage period. She appealed to everyone not to panic and draw water in an orderly manner. As some citizens with limited mobility, the elderly, the weak, women, and children may have difficulty fetching water, the city government also demands the civil affairs, districts and the social welfare system provide special attention and assistance.
Nan-Ze Hu, Taiwan Water Corporation Chairman, expressed his gratitude to the city government and citizens for their cooperation and understanding. The construction of related water supply facilities is going to further stabilize the water supply network, and TWC will surely complete the project with quality and schedule.

The Economic Development Bureau explained that, the Taichung City Government supervised TWC to complete the installation of 119 temporary water supply stations and fill in water to cater tothe public’s urgent water needs from insufficient water storage. These stations will be replenished with water mainly from the Taichung Water Supply Plant vehicles, which all meet the drinking water quality standards, and water injection began today. The free water supply service has set up 13 temporary water supply stations in the East District, 21 temporary water supply stations in the South District, 13 temporary water supply stations in Beitun and North Districts, and 7 temporary water supply stations in the Wuri District. In Taiping District, where water supply is completely cut off, 38 temporary water supply stations have been installed. 27 temporary water supply stations are also available in Dali District. Economic Development Bureau indicated that they have equipped some water storage tanks in the temporary water supply station with water level wireless communication monitors, which can send back the water level status in real-time and, according to the water demand of the public, adjust the water replenishment frequency whenever necessary. During the water outage period, please contact TWC’s operating offices or 1910 toll-free service number to inquire on the status of the water outage and restoration. The Economic Development Bureau reminded the public to save water by using tap water for drinking water, and utilizing free recycled water and groundwater for washing and cleaning purposes. Nine water resource recovery centers and 95 new construction sites are available in Taichung City, where groundwater resources as secondary water are offered for free to reducing tap water consumption. The Bureau of Economic Development indicated that this water suspension covers Wuri District (east of the railway, south of National Highway No. 1), South District (east and south of the railway), East District (east and south of the railway), North District (east of the railway), Beitun District (east of the railway), Dali District (all), and Taiping District (all). The areas with water pressure reduction includes East District, North District, Beitun District (south of Dongshan Road, west of the railway, east of Huayan Road and Beitun Road, north of Huayan Road), and Wuri District (south of Dali River and east of Wu River). In today's inspection, Mayor Lu, City Councilors Ting-Wei Luo, Chong Lee, Ya-Hui Chen, Pei-Han Lin, Director of Economic Development Bureau Feng-Yuan Chang, Director of Information Bureau Zhao-Xin Zheng, Chairman of Taiwan Water Corporation Nan-Ze Hu, General Manager Jia-Rong Lee, Director of the Fourth District Liang-Zhong Wang, Acting District Chief of the Eastern District Office Zhong-Sheng Wu Wait were present. Legislator Guo-Shu Huang and City Councilor Gong-Jin Zheng also sent staff to express their concern.
