The cumulative capacity of renewable energy installations in Taichung City will reach 1.82 million kW through actively promoting renewable energy development. In 2022, an estimated annual power generation was up to 3.5 billion kWh. Among them, the annual power generation of solar photovoltaics is about 700 million kWh, ranking third in six special municipalities. The estimated yearly output of green electricity can provide an extra 190000 households with annual electricity consumption. Wind power generation is also one of the vital renewable energy sources in Taichung. The government has installed 58 land wind turbines in the coastal areas, with an annual power generation of about 300 million kWh, ranking first in the six special municipalities. Combined with the first "Taichung Port Offshore Wind Power Industry Zone" around the country, Taichung has become a manufacturing center for offshore wind power components and a significant hub for indicator industries in the Asia-Pacific region.
