One of the summer events loved by people of all ages, the “Taichung Movie Fun-In Festival” is scheduled from Jun 30 to Sep 2, touring all 29 districts of Taichung City. 15 blockbuster animations and movies are selected for this event. Today (Jun 28), Information Bureau, Taichung City Government had a press conference for the event, revealing the blockbuster movie list and prizes of LCD TV and movie tickets for the first time. Mayor Shiow-Yen Lu made her surprise entry in the easter egg revealing grand prizes, such as a 75” LCD TV and Nintendo Switch consoles for the opening and closing ceremonies. All citizens are invited to enjoy good movies and have a chance to win grand prizes!

“It returns with a bang after 3-year long hiatus!” said Mr. Chao-Hsin Cheng, director-general of Information Bureau. The Taichung Movie Fun-In Festival was cancelled in the last 3 years due to the global pandemic and so did the movie tour across the districts. But now it came back this year. Mr. Cheng pointed out that the Information Bureau worked together with Civil Affairs Bureau, Education Bureau, Labor Affairs Bureau and Taichung Film Development Foundation and selected 15 much loved movies and animations produced in Taiwan, Europe, America and Japan, including Minions, Frozen, Doraemon and Chu Ke Szu Lang. He expressed his gratitude to the City Council for financial support and Education Bureau and Civil Affairs Bureau for arrangement of venues in all 29 districts.

Mr. Cheng also emphasized that the festival offers more than just movies. “There are food, giveaways, fun, something to watch and buttons to push for prizes!” In addition to popcorns and Osaka fans, there are 32” LCD TV and 5 sets of movie tickets to give away for every movie session this year. On Jun 30, the opening movie is “Minions – The Rise of Gru” at Yangming Administration Building at Fengyuan, and the finale is “Spider-Man: No Way Home” at Wenxin Forest Park at Nanatun on Sep 2. The final grand prizes are a 75” LCD TV and Nintendo Switch consoles. The Leopard Cat Family is invited for the opening ceremony to interact with children and take photos with them.

Furthermore, in response to the central government's cash subsidy policy and the Ministry of Culture's gift money policy for coming-of-age ceremony, people who spend money for the support of film art and culture consumption are eligible for a special reward for this event. Limited giveaways are available at the event venues by presenting the ticket stubs from any cinema in Taichung or Zhongshan Cinema and Art Space 73, and there is even a chance to win a ticket package for the 2023 Taichung International Animation Festival. So, come and show your support for Taichung through your spending power!

Mr. Cheng also highlighted that there are additional exciting initiatives in store. For the support for the labor rights of the visually impaired, the event joins force with the Labor Affairs Bureau to provide massage sessions by visually impaired massagers for free at West District on Jul 1, Dali District on Jul 7, Daya District on Jul 8, and South District on Aug 19. People are encouraged to watch movie and do something for charity.

“There will be lots of animations here in Taichung, in the second half of 2023!” added Mr. Cheng. The animation movies are carefully selected for this event and available only for Taichung. As long as citizens of all ages come to watch the tour across 29 districts tour this summer vacation, they will be able to enjoy the best animation films. Everyone is warmly welcomed to bring their entire family and enjoy these high-quality movies together, free of charge!

The Information Bureau said that Taichung City Government is dedicated to the development of filming industry. The “2023 Taichung Movie Fun-In Festival” is scheduled from Jun 30 to Sep 2 with great films, and what follows is the Golden Horse Film Festival Taichung session in August and Taichung International Animation Festival in October. The "Zhongshan Cinema and Art Space 73" planned and operated by the Taichung Film Development Foundation also regularly screens art films, free themed movies, and holds multiple film art activities. These initiatives aim to broaden the cinematic horizons of citizens and visitors while creating a unique movie-watching atmosphere in Taichung.
