The "2023 Taichung International Animation Film Festival," which leaps onto the international animation stage, will be held from October 13th (Friday) to October 21st (Saturday) at Taichung Vieshow Cinema at TAROKO Mall. On the 22nd, the festival released the first wave of feature films out of competition, echoing the theme of this year's exhibition, "Between Light and Shadow." According to Zhao-Xin Zheng, Director of the Information Bureau, this year marks the ninth edition of the Taichung International Animation Film Festival. In the past, the selection of feature films for each film festival included various issues, techniques, and media, hoping to allow more creators and fans to learn and experience the beauty of animation, thereby promoting the development of Taiwan's animation industry. Besides the recently announced Focus Filmmakers and Focus Studio, this year's feature films out of competition include the Hungarian work "Four Souls of Coyote," which won the Jury Award at the 2023 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the Asian premiere, Mexican 3D children's animation,《Eagle and Jaguar: The Legendary Warriors, 》and French animation master Michel Ocelot's new work《The Black Pharaoh, the Savage, and the Princess 》and other brilliant works will premiere in Taiwan, which is very exciting.
Ying-Zhi Lin, the executive director of Taichung Film Development Foundation, added that the two works "Four Souls of Coyote" and "Eagle and Jaguar: The Legendary Warriors" reflect the relationship between humans and the environment with different content. And "The Black Pharaoh, the Savage, and the Princess" tells three fantasy fairy tales. Moreover, the American animation master Bill Plympton, who has won two Oscars for the best animated short film, has always attracted the attention of countless audiences with his unique painting style.
