2024 Central Taiwan Lantern Festival Main Visual Unveiled, Portraying Leasings of “Dragon Celebration” in Geometric Style

The 2024 Central Taiwan Lantern Festival, scheduled for February 16-25, will be held grandly at the Taichung Central Park. This year's creative and entertaining theme, “Taichung Dragon Celebration,” draws inspiration from the homophonic Taiwanese phrase “everything is good,” conveying Taichung's charm as a city with all kinds of goodness and a beautiful lifestyle. Today (5th), the Tourism and Travel Bureau, of Taichung City Government unveiled this year's key visual featuring a geometrically stylized golden dragon lantern, echoing the festival's commitment to upholding the traditional art of lantern-making in central Taiwan.

According to Director-General Chen Mei-hsiu of the Tourism and Travel Bureau, this year's key visual presents the main lantern for the Year of the Dragon. By transforming the flood detention basin area in the Central Park into a theater stage, with a divine dragon coiled along the boundary between the dry and wet areas of the basin. Towering 12 meters high, the entire dragon display spans an impressive 76 meters wide, accompanied by a performance where dancers spin and toss illuminated cubes as if the dragon is playing with dragon balls. The majestic shape serves as an auspicious golden dragon guarding and blessing the citizens in the new year.

The dragon's head is enhanced through light and color transformations, stretching out a translucent view to create a three-dimensional visual intensity, as if ready to soar upwards. The vibrant golden yellow color scheme, when paired properly,When paired properly, the vibrant golden yellow color scheme adds to the visual depth and dynamism. The overall composition corresponds to the event theme, blending modern aesthetics with traditional festival flair, distinctly showcasing a fusion of tradition and modern artistry. Additionally, the golden yellow echoes Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen’s New Year wishes – “May all in Taichung prospers and be happy in the Year of Dragon” – hopefully foretelling an even more flourishing economy for Taichung in the coming year.

The Tourism and Travel Bureau announced that the 2024 Central Taiwan Lantern Festival will be held at the Taichung Central Park, Taichung's largest metropolitan park. Spanning over 15 hectares, the festival grounds feature dazzling lantern displays and exciting activities organized by the Taichung City Government every dadaily. These include themed markets, street performance, and a variety of music performances at on the opening and closing days, promising diverse lantern festival experiences for visitors.
