New spotlight attraction! Taichung presents the new Guguan Suspension Bridge, Mayor Lu invites all to walk on the bridge and bathe in hot springs.

The Guguan Suspension Bridge is located by the Dajia River, with a length of around 95 meters and a deck width of 1.5 meters, approximately 800 meters above sea level, in Boai Village, Heping District. The bridge's entrance is positioned between the Utopia Holiday Hotel and the Ku Kuan Hot-Spring Hotel. It serves as a vital crossing for those exploring the Shaolai Trail. The renovation work on the Guguan Suspension Bridge was carried out by the Taichung City Government, and the bridge opened for public use on September 12 last year. Today (17th), Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen conducted an inspection, saying that the renovated Suspension Bridge looks very beautiful. Not only is it now safe to cross, but with the added lighting effects, it has also become a scenic spot for nighttime photos. She welcomes everyone to come to Guguan, walk on the suspension bridge and soak in the hot springs.

Mayor Lu noted that Guguan is a scenic area with various constructions, but some of the older structures are in disrepair and need improved safety measures. The Guguan Suspension Bridge, standing for nearly 40 years, was found to have safety concerns during inspections. The Heping District Office, showing a strong sense of responsibility, promptly reported the issue for renovation. With District Chief Wu Wan-fu's proactive efforts, the Taichung City Government's Indigenous Peoples Commission covered NT$10,102,051 for the renovation, while the district office covered NT$6,734,700. The project was completed in less than a year, reflecting the Heping District Office's commitment to actively enhance local infrastructure.

Mayor Lu humorously remarked, “Guguan hot springs are said to have incredible effects in getting pregnant.” She shared that, in addition to the excellent water quality, she heard that legislator Chiang Chi-chen experienced the joy of having a son and a daughter after indulging in the Guguan hot springs. She encourages everyone to visit, especially those aspiring to have boys or girls!

The Taichung City Government’s Heping District Office underscored the importance of the Shaolai Trail for Guguan's tourism industry. Due to the damage from typhoons, heavy rains, and lack of maintenance for years, the suspension bridge needed repairs. As part of the comprehensive construction of the circular route, the Shaolai Suspension Bridge was closed for renovation in August 2020, which was finished on February 1, 2021. After the bridge reopened, the Peace District Office initiated another renovation project for the Guguan Suspension Bridge on November 8, 2021.

According to the Heping District Office, the total budget for the Guguan Suspension Bridge Renovation Project was NT$16,836,751, as specified in the Construction Bureau's inspection report. The project was completed on August 22, accepted on September 11, and opened for public use on September 12 last year.

Today, Mayor Lu, along with legislator Chiang Chi-chen and city councilor Ku Hsiu-ying, led representatives from relevant bureaus and departments of the city government to conduct an inspection alongside. Representatives on behalf of city councilors Chu Yuan-hung and Wu Chen-chia were also present to show their support.
