Racing fever is sweeping Taiwan! With the Red Bull Showrun Taichung just a month away, the Taichung City Government is wholeheartedly preparing for this auto show. Today (2nd), Mayor Lu Hsiu-Yen unveiled the Red Bull race car-themed train at MRT Beitun Main Station. The train's interior mirrors the setup of the auto show that will take place on Shizheng Road on the event day, making quite an impression. “We are deeply honored!” Mayor Lu said, noting that this is Taiwan’s first auto show held on the street and the only one in Asia. She encouraged everyone to ride the themed train and check-in. Additionally, she announced six major discounts that Taichung has to offer, including discounts on food, accommodation, entertainment, shopping, and transportation, with bus and MRT single-day tickets reduced by up to 37%, aiming to showcase Taichung and ensure everyone enjoys their time here.
Mayor Lu noted that the Red Bull Showrun Taichung will be held on September 28 on Shizheng Road in Taichung. The city government is putting the final touches on preparations, which include improving the city's landscape and launching various marketing campaigns. Today, she unveiled Taichung’s exclusive MRT train for the event. Authorized by Red Bull, the train's interior mimics the setup of the auto show on Shizheng Road. The train features a racetrack design, road signs from Shizheng Road, tire burn marks on the floor, and images of the Oracle Red Bull Racing champion team’s drivers. Welcome everyone to ride the train and check-in.
Mayor Lu added that the themed train will run from today until September 30. To get the most up-to-date schedule, you can use the Taichung MRT app. She urged residents to take the MRT to the Red Bull Showrun Taichung, pointing out that City Hall Station and Shui-an Temple Station have designated photo spots. Taking the MRT is the ideal way to fully enjoy the event.
Additionally, Mayor Lu highlighted six major discounts available in Taichung. These include food, accommodation, entertainment, shopping, and transportation discounts. The offers involve more than 200 partner stores, a special deal at the Civil Sports Center where one person gets free admission with a paid companion, bus and MRT single-day tickets reduced by up to 37%, limited edition Red Bull-themed EasyCards, a chance to win original model cars and hotel vouchers through a quiz on the e-Taichung app, and limited 500 TWD discount vouchers for the Fengjia and Yizhong shopping districts. For the most recent information, people can visit Taichung Tourism’s official website (https://travel.taichung.gov.tw/).
“It’s Taiwan’s first and Asia’s only!” Mayor Lu said, noting that this is the first auto show ever held on the street in Taiwan and the only one of its kind in Asia, which is truly remarkable. Previously, the Oracle Red Bull Racing team has hosted such events in Washington, Tokyo, and Prague, typically in capital cities. This time, Taichung has been chosen for this event, highlighting the city’s prominence on the global stage. Mayor Lu thanked the citizens, the city government staff, and the Red Bull team for introducing Taichung to the world and making Taichung a globally recognized city.
Moreover, the Oracle Red Bull Racing team, which has been a world champion for several years and holds the top global ranking, saw all 30,000 tickets for the auto show on the 28th sell out in no time! Taichung’s achievement of being recognized by the world and Red Bull as the first and only city in Asia to host a Showrun is a significant honor for the city. The city government is dedicated to ensuring a successful event and encourages everyone to arrive early to enjoy and appreciate all that Taichung has to offer.
Mayor Lu said that Shizheng Road, where the auto show will be hosted, is a key road in Taichung. The easiest way to get to the event is by taking the MRT. The organizer reported that over 80% of the 30,000 tickets had been sold to people outside Taichung, including those from other parts of Taiwan and international visitors. She recommended that people take the Taiwan High-Speed Rail to Taichung, transfer to the MRT, and get off at Shui-an Temple Station or City Hall Station. The MRT stations are near many well-known attractions, shopping districts, and dining options, allowing visitors to enjoy Taichung’s food and appreciate the city.
The Sports Bureau highlighted that Taichung is capable of hosting top-tier global events. After bringing the World Baseball Classic (WBC) back to Taichung in 2023 for the first time in a decade, the city will once again host another global event—Red Bull Showrun Taichung in 2024. The auto show is projected to draw more than 30,000 attendees in a single day, with about 80% coming from outside Taichung. The city government aims to leverage these major events to stimulate the local economy and enhance residents' quality of life, working in partnership with the public to drive economic progress.
The Sports Bureau noted, in appreciation of the public's enthusiastic response, that the city government will host a Showrun Party at the plaza in front of the Taichung City Government. The event will include a massive 1,300-inch screen for live broadcasting, an exhibit of the RB19 championship race car, and a range of tasty food and snacks, adding a flavorful touch to the Red Bull Showrun Taichung. Exclusive Red Bull Showrun merchandise will also be sold at the venue. Attendees can enjoy delicious food and watch the exciting world-class auto show while wearing limited-edition racing apparel!
