Taichung is welcoming the arrival of a prestigious international hotel brand! InterContinental Taichung, which was invested and built by CMP Group in alliance with the world's leading British company IHG Hotels & Resorts, introducing the international premium brand InterContinental, opened today (23rd). Mayor Lu Hsiu-Yen praised it as “a dazzling new city landmark” and thanked CMP Group for their years of contribution to Taichung. The hotel’s design integrates nearby commercial and artistic elements, creating a modern living environment that blends beauty with sustainability.
“A splendid inauguration!” Mayor Lu remarked that CMP Group has been committed to Taichung, creating many iconic landmarks and attractions such as Park Lane by CMP, Park Lane by Splendor, CMP Block Museum of Arts, and PARK2 Caowu Square. With the grand opening of InterContinental Taichung today, Lu believes that the exceptional collaboration between CMP Group and InterContinental Hotels Group will deliver an outstanding accommodation experience for travelers from both within the country and abroad. This will not only raise Taichung’s profile as a tourist hotspot but also significantly support the expansion into international markets.
Mayor Lu noted that Taichung is known as a city of festivities. The recent Red Bull Showrun car show drew 120,000 people and generated NT$280 million in tourism production value, with nearby major hotels reporting occupancy rates exceeding 90% or reaching full capacity. The recently concluded Taichung Jazz Festival attracted over 1.5 million fans over a ten-day period. Moreover, the Taichung Shopping Festival is set to begin tomorrow, with upcoming events like the Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival and New Year’s Eve party on the horizon. The city government is committed to organizing large-scale events, giving the public strong incentives to travel to Taichung and driving consumer spending to stimulate the economy.
Eric Swanson, the General Manager of InterContinental Taichung, noted that as a member of InterContinental Hotels Group, he recognizes Taichung's distinctive role in Taiwan's market. The city has a convenient transport network that facilitates travel from the north and south and serves as a dynamic center for business and tourism, merging innovation with tradition to attract global travelers. InterContinental Taichung aims to leverage this advantage and offer unparalleled luxury hospitality that highlights Taiwan’s welcoming nature and reflects the InterContinental brand’s sincere spirit, “True Hospitality for Good.” Every aspect is designed to deliver a memorable and exceptional experience for guests.
According to the Tourism and Travel Bureau, InterContinental Taichung is located within Calligraphy Greenway, just a short walk from major attractions such as the National Museum of Natural Science, Taichung Civic Square, and PARK2 Caowu Square. The hotel spans 18 floors and has 206 refined rooms, a stunning rooftop garden, an outdoor swimming pool, a 24-hour fitness center, four dining venues, a high-ceilinged, pillar-free banquet hall, and versatile conference rooms, all designed to meet a wide range of traveler needs. Bookings are now available, and guests can begin enjoying the luxury amenities and memorable experiences of this premier hotel as early as November.
The Tourism and Travel Bureau highlighted Taichung’s appeal as a prime travel destination, with diverse attractions spanning mountain, coastal, Tun, and city areas, offering year-round excitement. This year, Taichung became the only Taiwan city on Agoda's rankings of the most budget-friendly destinations in Asia. In terms of visitor stays, Taichung ranked second after Taipei among Taiwan’s six municipalities last year and in the first half of this year. In the future, businesses such as Taichung Commercial Bank, Da-Yi Construction & Development, and Chunghwa Post plan to open at least nine hotels, each with over 130 rooms. This will bring over 2,200 new rooms and create jobs, infusing new energy into Taichung’s hotel industry.
In addition, PARK2 Caowu Square, jointly operated by the Tourism and Travel Bureau and CMP Group through a public-private partnership, stood out among 34 entrants last year in the Golden Thumb Awards for PPP, winning high recognition in both the “Government Team Award” and “Private Sector Team Award” categories. At today’s opening event, Mayor Lu, city council members Chiang Chao-kuo and Huang Shou-ta, former Taichung Mayor Hu Chih-chiang and his wife Shao Hsiao-ling, Tourism and Travel Bureau Director Chen Mei-hsiu, Construction Bureau Director Chen Ta-tien, Economic Development Bureau Director Chang Feng-yuan, Cultural Affairs Bureau Director Chen Chia-chun, and CMP Group Chairman Lin Ting-fang, among others were all present.
