This year, Singapore and Taichung City Government have maintained close contact, engaging in cultural and urban development. Trade Representative Mr. Yip Wei Kiat visited Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen in March, and they thoroughly discussed the Singapore Great Sale and Taichung Shopping Festival. Soon after, Mayor Lu visited Singapore to exchange experiences with city development and received a warm welcome from Singapore government. Mayor Lu extended a special invitation to Mr. Yip to participate in the filming of Taichung Shopping Festival video, and showcased Singaporean cuisine.
During the period, Mr.Yip Wei Kiat wore a smile and was friendly. He was invited again to attend the opening of Taichung Shopping Festival, truly the best spokesperson.
On the day of filming, Mr. Yip Wei Kiat was dressed in a chef uniform to tansform into a dream chef, and he prepared honey-glazed barbecued pork especially for Mayor Lu. His professional appearance and superb cooking skills amazed both the city government employees and the Mooie Garden Restaurant staff.
Mr. Yip Wei Kiat visited several Singaporean restaurants in Taichung, starting with PUTIEN, a Michelin-starred restaurant. Mr. Yip and Mayor Lu had lunch together while discussing local Singaporean dishes, including squirrel fish, which requires special knife skills to ensure every part is fried until crispy. Mayor Lu noted that the characteristics of Singaporean cuisine stem from Ethnic Chinese wisdom!
Next, Mr. Yip visited a Singaporean hawker food restaurant on Beiping Road. Despite never having visited Singapore before, two young entrepreneurs can prepare authentic Singaporean cuisine. It’s surprising to Mr. Yip!
Mr. Yip Wei Kiat encountered something more interesting at Robin's Singapore Food in Taichung's 6th Market. The owner of this restaurant comes from a five-star hotel in Singapore. Mr. Yip enjoyed the taste of Singaporean hometown cuisine while he was having a pleasant conversation with the owner. Further confirming the restaurant's excellent reputation!
The most heartwarming thing occurred at the Singapore-Malaysia Restaurant in Nantun District, Taichung. The owner, who has been learning culinary skills in Singapore since the age of 16, and he has been preparing Hainanese Chicken Rice for 28 years. After tasting the dish, Mr. Yip Wei Kiat said emotionally, I felt like I'm back in Singapore, it truly tastes authentic!
Despite a full day of filming, Mr. Yip showed no signs of fatigue. He was interested in the many authentic Singaporean dishes in Taichung City, and he also stated that this is a worthwhile destination for Singaporeans seeking delicious food!
