Starting December 2 this year, Starlux Airlines will begin operating the “Okinawa-Taichung” route, using an A321neo aircraft with 188 seats, and offering four round-trip flights weekly. This is exciting news for the 7.3 million residents of central Taiwan and visitors from Japan. Starlux Airlines, recognizing Taichung's potential as a travel hub, has established a second operational base there and is expanding its network with new routes, including the Phu Quoc Island route launched in October. The addition of the routes will not only give travelers easier access to beautiful destinations but will also open up new international tourism business opportunities for Taichung.

Director Chen Mei-hsiu of the Tourism and Travel Bureau thanked Starlux Airlines for recognizing the potential of Taichung's tourism market, which made the launch of the “Okinawa-Taichung” route possible. Taichung offers abundant natural beauty and a variety of travel experiences, while Okinawa draws many tourists with its stunning beaches, unique atmosphere, and cuisine. This new route will provide greater convenience for residents of both regions and help strengthen tourism exchanges between them. Looking ahead, the Bureau hopes to see more routes open, attracting more international visitors to central Taiwan and boosting the growth of the tourism industry.

Starlux Airlines noted that Taichung is a key hub for the airline in Taiwan, and it continues to expand its routes from this city. Okinawa is one of the preferred island vacation destinations for Taiwanese, with distinct attractions like Naminoue Shrine, Kouri Island, Gyokusendo Cave, and American Village. The newly launched Taichung-Okinawa route will offer more convenient travel options for people in central Taiwan while also aiming to draw more Okinawan visitors to Taichung, helping to strengthen tourism and cultural exchanges between central Taiwan and Okinawa.

The Tourism and Travel Bureau mentioned that the flight from Okinawa to Taichung takes under 2 hours. As Taiwan's center for culture and transportation, Taichung features a wide range of travel experiences, including scenic mountains, coastlines, urban charms, local delicacies, foreign cuisines, and various activities. With its historical culture, fashion, and entertainment, Taichung awaits travelers from both Taiwan and abroad.

The Tourism and Travel Bureau further emphasized that the city government is committed to advancing tourism in Taichung and is actively negotiating the launch of more flight routes. The goal is to draw more international tourists to experience the beauty of Taichung and generate greater inbound tourism business opportunities. The Bureau also looks forward to Starlux Airlines continuing to expand its presence in central Taiwan, offering travelers a more convenient and comfortable flying experience.
