On the 30th, the 2024 Taichung City Cup International Flying Disc Tournament made its debut at the Beitun Multipurpose Grass Sports Ground and the Taiyuan Soccer Field. Representing Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen, Acting Sports Bureau Director Yu Chih-hsiang attended the opening ceremony to thank Legislator Huang Chien-hao, who is also the chairman of the Taichung City Flying Disc Committee, for his longstanding support for the development of flying disc sports. Thanks to Huang’s efforts, more platforms are now available for players to connect with each other. Yu wished participants good luck in achieving excellent results at these quality venues. He also expressed hopes that more tournaments will be organized to nurture athletic talent and promote a vibrant sports culture in Taichung.

Acting Director Yu highlighted Mayor Lu’s strong commitment to promoting sports for all, noting that this is the first time the tournament is being hosted in Taichung. Among the 20 registered teams are international participants from Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Malaysia, along with the gold medal-winning Taichung Flying Disc Team from the 2024 Citizens Sports Games, representing a total of five participating countries. Nearly 1,000 athletes, coaches, and guests have come together in Taichung for this event. With competitions held at the Beitun Multipurpose Grass Sports Ground and Taiyuan Soccer Field, Yu expressed hopes that all participants will give their best on the field to achieve outstanding results for themselves and their teams.

Acting Director Yu added that the city government collaborated closely with the organizer to meticulously prepare for the tournament. With a comprehensive grasp of the event, administrative support was provided in areas such as venue and equipment, relevant services, transportation, event logistics, medical care, environmental cleaning, accommodations, and competition scheduling. International participants and guests commended Taichung for its exceptional hosting and services, expressing enthusiasm for future opportunities to return and engage with the city again.

The Sports Bureau noted that flying disc sports have become a key focus of Taichung's Sports for All project. The city government has continuously optimized the Beitun Multipurpose Grass Sports Ground and the Taiyuan Soccer Field while organizing events such as the Flying Disc Mayor’s Cup, Flying Disc Chairperson’s Cup, family-friendly flying disc competitions, and the Flying Disc Masters Tournament. Notably, through the city government’s long-term dedication and collaboration with various sectors, the Taichung Flying Disc Team achieved a remarkable feat this year by reclaiming glory with a gold medal and ranking first nationwide at the Citizens Sports Games in Pingtung. Looking ahead, the city government will continue to expand its flying disc community by partnering with various groups and inviting citizens to come and enjoy the thrilling matches while cheering for their favorite athletes.

At today's event, Huang Chien-hao, a legislator and chairman of the Taichung City Flying Disc Committee, Secretary-General Yu Sheng-po, Acting Sports Bureau Director Yu Chih-hsiang, and a representative sent by Vice President Chiang Chi-chen of the Legislative Yuan were present to show their support. Additionally, Hsiao Shou-hsin, CEO of Jace Video Production, a sponsor of the tournament, was present to cheer on the athletes.
