Taichung’s grand New Year’s countdown party, “Snakes Bringing Happiness – 2025 Ultimate Countdown Night,” will begin at 6 PM on December 31 at Shuinan Central Park. The event features an all-star lineup, including Whee In from the renowned Korean girl group MAMAMOO, alongside top singers and bands, promising an electrifying atmosphere. To ensure smooth transportation, the Transportation Bureau has prepared in advance by planning MRT access with dedicated pedestrian pathways and three free shuttle routes linking major transit points. Real-time traffic updates will also be available through live monitoring. Attendees are encouraged to take public transportation and enjoy an exciting and stress-free countdown night.
According to Transportation Bureau Director Yeh Chao-fu, the MRT offers the easiest access to the New Year’s countdown concert. Last year’s celebration at Taichung attracted an unprecedented 240,000 attendees, and this year is expected to draw even larger crowds. While Shuinan Central Park has hosted numerous countdown concerts, traffic management remains a top priority, with highest-level planning and rehearsals in place. Conveniently located near the MRT Green Line, the venue can be reached via Wenhua High School Station or Wenxin Yinghua Station. From these stations, attendees can use the designated pedestrian corridor on Gansu Road. There will also be signs and traffic control devices and personnel, ensuring a safe journey to the concert.
“Hop on a free shuttle as soon as you step out of public transport stations to reach the venue!” Director Yeh highlighted that the Transportation Bureau has organized three free shuttle routes—the City Government Line, Songzhu Line, and Shuinan Line. These short-distance shuttles are planned to ease traffic by linking major transit points and offering transfer services from the HSR, TRA, and nearby parking facilities. Shuttles to the venue will start running at 5:30 PM and continue until 11:00 PM, while return services will be available from 10:00 PM to 1:30 AM. With shuttles departing as soon as they fill up, attendees can enjoy quick and convenient transportation without lengthy waits.
The Transportation Bureau advises that HSR passengers can alight at HSR Taichung Station and transfer to the MRT, exiting at City Hall Station (Exit 1) to catch the “City Government Line” shuttle to the venue by following the on-site signs. TRA passengers can disembark at Songzhu Station and follow directional signs after exiting to take the “Songzhu Line” shuttle. For those driving, you can park at Jingmao 6 or Jingmao 8 parking lots and board the “Shuinan Line” shuttle for a seamless trip to the event.
Director Yeh explained that Taichung Mass Rapid Transit has planned phased adjustments to train schedules for managing the crowd attending New Year’s countdown party. On December 31, trains will follow the regular weekday timetable, with 6-minute intervals during peak hours and 9-minute intervals during off-peak hours. From 7 PM onward, off-peak intervals will be reduced to 6 minutes and 30 seconds to accommodate the traffic, extending until 2 AM the next day. Additional measures will be implemented on the day to dynamically adjust operations based on real-time crowd conditions, ensuring efficient transport for attendees.
Furthermore, the Transportation Bureau has worked with bus companies to provide additional services and extended operating hours during the event. Ten city bus routes—23, 54, 82E, 108, 300, 303, 304, 305, 525, and G1—will operate later than usual. For specific schedule details, visit the Taichung Bus Information System (https://citybus.taichung.gov.tw/) or use the Taichung Bus app. Additionally, a taxi pick-up area will be available at the Jingmao Road and Dunhua Road intersection for those in need. Attendees are encouraged to use public transportation for an easier and more convenient journey to the event.
Director Yeh highlighted that the real-time traffic update service, which was a hit during the Xinshe Sea of Flowers and Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival, will be back for the New Year’s countdown party. It will provide live traffic updates around the venue, making it easier for attendees to plan their journey.
