Taichung, a key transportation hub in central Taiwan, has increasingly established itself as a vital place for international flights. With the surge in demand for South Korea-bound routes, numerous airlines have expanded into the Taichung market, offering greater convenience and travel options for locals and international visitors alike. Taichung’s Tourism and Travel Bureau noted that to cater to the growing traveler base and leverage this momentum, Korean Air is launching a series of new promotional deals starting today (15th). In addition to existing discounts at select partner stores for passengers with Taichung boarding passes, these new offers provide even more affordable opportunities to explore South Korea and other global destinations.
Tourism and Travel Bureau Director Chen Mei-hsiu highlighted that data from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications indicates over 780,000 South Korean tourists visited Taiwan by October of last year. The Tourism and Travel Bureau has promoted Korean travel routes and tourism growth by leveraging magazines, online media, familiarization tours, and joint promotional efforts with Taichung’s tourism industry stakeholders in South Korea. These efforts have successfully made the Taichung-Seoul route the busiest flight route from Taichung Airport.
According to Hsu Min-ting, General Manager of Korean Air’s Taipei branch, exclusive discounts are now available for flights departing from Taichung. These include direct flights to South Korea or via South Korea to regions such as Northeast Asia, Southeast and Southwest Asia, Europe, Russia, Mongolia, Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Oceania, Guam, and the Americas (excluding the U.S.). Travelers can enjoy these special offers by booking through the official website or app from January 15 to February 9, 2025 (provided the departure date falls between January 15 and October 25, 2025).
Furthermore, Korean Air SKYPASS members can enjoy additional perks when purchasing round-trip tickets for global destinations departing from Taichung through the official website or app between January 15 and February 28, 2025 (provided the departure date falls before October 25, 2025), and eligible members must register their ticket numbers on the website to qualify for bonus prize draw entries. Travelers on Taichung-to-South Korea routes (including domestic connecting flights in South Korea) will receive one entry, while those connecting through South Korea to other global destinations will earn two entries. The grand prize is two round-trip economy tickets from Taichung to Seoul for one winner and a companion. Taichung’s Tourism and Travel Bureau is also offering a variety of promotional gifts for participants to bring home.
The Tourism and Travel Bureau reminded that these promotional offers are exclusive to flights departing from Taichung. This is exciting news for the 7.3 million residents of central Taiwan, South Korean tourists, and transit passengers, offering a new opportunity to experience Taichung’s international routes.
Director Chen thanked Korean Air for recognizing Taichung’s tourism potential and reminded travelers that the boarding pass discount program is still available. Passengers presenting Korean Air boarding passes before March 31 can enjoy discounts at various locations, including Golden Tulip Zhong Xin Hotel, Dongshi Forest Garden, National Museum of Natural Science, Fu Din Wang Braised Pork Knuckle, Taichung Station Railway Cultural Park, the Everrich Duty-Free Shop’s EVER RICH Duty-Free Store at Taichung Airport, Hon Din Bakery, MITSUI OUTLET PARK Taichung Port, Taiwan Sun Cake Museum, and TC Timewalk. Visitors are encouraged to make the most of these deals.
Director Chen added that the “Taichung-Incheon” route is served by Korean Air, T’way Air, and Jin Air, with a combined total of 21 flights weekly.
