The 2025 Taichung Dongshi Sindingban Festival is set to take place on the 12th and 13th, bringing vibrant celebrations to the Dongshi Hakka Cultural Park, Taichung Hakka Story House, Zhongshan Road in Dongshi, and several local temples. According to the Council for Hakka Affairs, Taichung City Government, the event kicks off at 10:30 AM tomorrow, the 15th day of the Chinese New Year, with an exciting live demonstration of a 60kg giant red tortoise cake at the Dongshi Hakka Cultural Park. Renowned cake master Wu Xin-fa will showcase his skills by crafting a supersized Sindingban (similar to red tortoise cake). Attendees can enjoy a taste of this special cake, a delicacy symbolizing fertility and good luck. Everyone is welcome to join the celebrations in Taichung and wish for a year filled with happiness!
The Council for Hakka Affairs noted that the traditional Dou Ban Contest Culture will be featured on February 12th, coinciding with the Lantern Festival, at temples throughout Dongshi District. This spectacular event invites attendees to line up and cast divination blocks, and lucky participants will receive a Sindingban. Festivalgoers can also explore the main stage area, where the Community Growth Classroom Cultural and Creative Display and a vibrant marketplace featuring over 100 stalls await. The market will offer a wide array of creative Sindingban and local delicacies for visitors to enjoy. What makes Dongshi’s Sindingban special is its runner bean paste filling, a distinct twist that sets it apart from traditional Hakka and Minnan red tortoise cakes. Food enthusiasts must not miss this opportunity!
Furthermore, the park’s exhibition halls will feature a massive 60kg red tortoise cake and a peach-shaped rice cake, symbolizing the deep cultural roots and vitality of the mountain area, as well as the festival’s spirit of sharing joy. These elements draw crowds eager to admire, photograph, and celebrate the occasion each year. This year, these cakes will be distributed to attendees at 5:30 PM on February 12th and 13th. To make transportation easier during the festival, a free parking area is available at Dongshi Riverside Park, along with accessible shuttle services to the venue.
