Taichung City’s public art has won another award! After “Wandering in Greenfield” in Shuinan Economic and Trade Park swept several major international design awards last year, including honors from the US, UK, France, and Switzerland, another local artwork is now making waves! In 2025, the piece “Island Ball Data” by Redner Studio has been selected as a gold winner in the Architectural Design - Public Art & Public Art Installation category at the MUSE Design Awards in the U.S. This highlights both Taichung’s dedication to public art and the global recognition of the city government's efforts in promoting urban aesthetics!

The Taichung City Government's Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that since Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen took office, she has been committed to creating a beautiful, happy, and livable city, pushing forward public art installation projects throughout Taichung’s various districts — from the mountains and coastline to urban and rural communities. In the Shuinan Economic and Trade Park, the art project under the theme “Shuinan’s New Look” has brought together top-tier artists from both Taiwan and abroad. In addition to the internationally acclaimed pieces “Wandering in Greenfield” and “Island Ball Data,” the project includes 13 other standout artworks such as “Floating Flowers,” “Chasing Light and Shadows,” “Shuinan Living Room: Circle of Life Seating,” “Coordinate Series – Firefly Blossoms,” “Radiant Time,” Light Loop,” “Avian Horticulturist,” “Shuinan Seed Garden,” “Microscopic Copy,” “Green Canopy,” and “The Essence of Shuinan – Pipe.” Additionally, an augmented reality (AR) project, “My Story in Shuinan,” is also underway. This work aims to spark dialogue between public art and the surrounding environment, inviting the public to explore the historical changes and development of Shuinan.

According to Redner Studio, the creative minds behind the piece, “Island Ball Data” quickly became a crowd favorite and remains one of the most eye-catching artworks in the park. Located within the forest of the Life Experience Zone, the installation features 12 stainless steel spheres of different sizes, which resemble floating bubbles drifting up from the forest floor. At night, each sphere reacts to the surrounding humidity and temperature, shifting colors and glowing like breathing bubbles. Visitors are warmly encouraged to take a stroll through the forest and experience the dazzling, ever-changing visual feast of colorful orbs.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau added that all are welcome to visit Shuinan Central Park to experience the beauty of public art and enjoy a leisurely time with family and friends. For more information, please visit the “Shuinan’s New Look” Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Shuinan.Public.Art).
