The Zhongshan Land Office, Taichung City is presenting the second-quarter art exhibition in 2025. It is a solo exhibition by artist Tsai Hsiu-Mei, titled “Spring Whispers of Cats: A Fantastical Floral Realm - Tsai Hsiu-Mei’s Ink and Nihonga Solo Exhibition.” Held at the 4th floor of the Art Corridor at the Zhongshan Land Office from May 2 to July 31, the exhibition invites art lovers and the general public handling business affairs to experience the springtime landscape where art and nature beautifully intertwine.
Land Administration Bureau Director Tseng Kuo-Chun noted that the Zhongshan Land Office has thoughtfully curated an art space to make business visits more welcoming and enjoyable. While offering a platform for artists to display their work, the office allows the public to experience art alongside their daily affairs. This season's exhibition blends ink and Nihonga media, not only highlighting the delicate beauty of Eastern painting but also infusing a sense of childlike wonder and innovation. It is an arts and cultural feast that appeals both visually and emotionally.
According to Acting Director Wu Chih-Wei of the Zhongshan Land Office, artist Tsai Hsiu-Mei masterfully fuses ink and Nihonga to create a fresh and diverse artistic style. Her depictions of animals, flowers, and birds are full of vitality, childlike charm, and poetic expression. A standout feature of her ink painting technique is the use of gofun and acrylic pouring, which forms natural crack-like patterns, adding depth and artistic ambiance to each piece. Director Wu praised Tsai’s artistic passion and persistence, noting that her exhibition brings a revitalizing energy to the public office environment
Tsai Hsiu-Mei’s exhibition, “Spring Whispers of Cats: A Fantastical Floral Realm,” creates a soul-stirring feast that blends art with the touching experience of life through the integration of natural beauty and a picture book style. The exhibition is divided into three major themes: “Springtime Fantasy” captures cats frolicking among spring blooms, playfully engaging with natural elements like cherry blossoms and morning glories; “Ink & Floral Elegance” highlights flowers like peonies, plum blossoms, and orchids, rendered in a fusion of graceful ink and vibrant Nihonga; “Harmony in Nature” features delightful encounters between cats and creatures like butterflies, ladybirds, and goldfish, expressing the beauty of spring’s vitality and environmental harmony. Through her refined technique and rich palette, Tsai draws viewers into a poetic, childlike world of art.
Land Administration Bureau added that to help visitors have a better grasp of the ideas and techniques behind Tsai’s work, artist Tsai Hsiu-Mei will personally lead guided tours every Tuesday from 10 AM to noon throughout the exhibition. The scheduled dates are May 6, 13, 20, and 27; June 3, 10, 17, and 24; and July 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29.
