Taichung MRT expands payment options of the Multiple Payment system.

Since the launch of the Multiple Payment system last year, the Taichung MRT Green Line has continued to expand its range of payment options to provide passengers with a more convenient travel experience. According to the Taichung Mass Rapid Transit Corporation, a QR code scanning feature for TWQR was introduced earlier this year, in collaboration with nine financial institutions. More recently, contactless payment services using Mastercard and UnionPay credit cards have also been made available, further enhancing convenience for passengers.
According to the Taichung Mass Rapid Transit Corporation, as the domestic market for diversified payment methods continues to mature, the Green Line has, since April last year, allowed passengers to use contactless Visa and JCB credit cards (including those linked to Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay). Additionally, passengers may use mobile payment platforms such as LINE Pay, Easy Wallet, iPASS MONEY, and icash Pay. By simply tapping their credit cards or mobile devices, or scanning a QR code ride pass at the gates, passengers can swiftly complete the payment process.
To further enhance service quality, accessible gates at all stations have been equipped with QR code scanning functionality for TWQR starting from the end of March this year. This feature is firstly available to customers of nine financial institutions, including the Bank of Taiwan, Land Bank of Taiwan, Taiwan Cooperative Bank, First Bank, Hua Nan Bank, Chang Hwa Bank, Mega International Commercial Bank, Taiwan Business Bank, and Chunghwa Post. Passengers simply need to open the corresponding app and present the ride code; upon scanning, the fare is directly deducted from their account for a fast and convenient payment experience.
In addition, to accommodate the needs of international travelers and strengthen the city’s global image, Taichung MRT introduced contactless payment functionality for Mastercard and UnionPay credit cards starting in May. Passengers are no longer required to purchase separate tickets—simply tapping their existing credit cards allows for quick and easy access to the system, saving valuable time.
The Taichung Mass Rapid Transit Corporation noted that since the implementation of the Multiple Payment system, usage has shown steady growth. Looking ahead, the company will continue to introduce more diverse and optimized payment methods based on passenger needs, with the goal of providing residents and visitors with a more convenient and high-quality metro service.
