The Ministry of Transportation and Communications held the 60th Anniversary Celebration of Highway Day yesterday (July 1). During the event, it reviewed the performance of agencies nationwide in indicative awards such as the Golden Road Award, Golden Quality Award, and Golden Safety Award over the years. Taichung City stood out with an exceptional performance and was honored with the Outstanding Highway Construction Award, highlighting the city government’s remarkable achievements in advancing transportation infrastructure. Deputy Director Yen Huan-Yi of the Construction Bureau attended the award ceremony on behalf of Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen to witness and celebrate this moment of distinction.
Director Chen Ta-Tien of the Construction Bureau noted that since Mayor Lu assumed office, the city government has been fully committed to enhancing construction quality and implementing occupational safety systems, achieving remarkable results and receiving continuous recognition from central government awards. Among them, the Golden Road Award—often referred to as the “Oscars of the transportation sector”—has seen Taichung City ranked first nationwide for five consecutive years. In addition, the city's “bridge inspection” and “bridge maintenance” operations have been rated as “excellent” for nine consecutive years, underscoring the city government’s high level of professionalism and sustained efforts in road and bridge maintenance.
Director Chen further noted that this year’s evaluation by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications extended beyond traditional highway construction to include the Golden Quality Award, which emphasizes the quality of public construction, and the Golden Safety Award, which focuses on occupational safety. The evaluation covered overall performance in areas such as construction quality, worksite safety, and facility maintenance. The Taichung City Government team demonstrated outstanding capabilities, earning high recognition from the central government.
The Construction Bureau emphasized that receiving awards year after year is the strongest affirmation of the professionalism and dedication of the city government’s construction team. Moving forward, the bureau will continue to promote road paving and enhance a people-centered transportation environment with a professional and proactive approach, striving to safeguard citizens' travel safety and to build a more friendly and comprehensive urban transportation system.
