Central Taiwan's four counties join hands to enter the Hong Kong and Macau market and promote tourism! The governments of Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County, and Miaoli County formed a delegation to participate in the “2025 Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo” from July 16 to 22. A “Charming Central Taiwan” pavilion was set up, alongside two key courtesy visits and a B2B networking dinner. The events concluded successfully, attracting attention from the tourism industry in Hong Kong and Macau.
According to Taichung City’s Tourism and Travel Bureau, during the exhibition, Taichung showcased its year-round tourism appeal through accommodations, specialty souvenirs, themed itineraries, and travel information, drawing numerous visitors from Hong Kong and Macau. Many attendees expressed that they had visited Taiwan multiple times and looked forward to exploring more diverse attractions and cultural experiences in central Taiwan. In particular, Taichung’s family-friendly activities, cycling routes, and hiking itineraries received strong interest.
Director Mei-Hsiu Chen from the Tourism and Travel Bureau pointed out that travelers from Hong Kong and Macau show both strong willingness and high mobility to visit Taiwan, making it a relatively mature overseas market. Through this opportunity to engage with airlines and travel agencies, the bureau proposed the promotional strategy of “one visit per season, four visits a year” to highlight Taichung’s exciting year-round events. Moving forward, the city will continue to package new attractions and themed activities to provide more reasons to visit and strengthen incentives for return trips from the Hong Kong and Macau markets.
This year’s event also featured specially planned stage interactions, including multiple prize quizzes and tourism-themed games that drew enthusiastic participation from large crowds. The lively atmosphere was fueled by attendees eager to win limited-edition gifts from Taichung, such as accommodation vouchers and experience coupons for tourism factories. Their active engagement demonstrated a strong interest in traveling to Taichung. The Tourism and Travel Bureau expressed hope that this would encourage more visitors from Hong Kong and Macau to explore Taichung in person, experience its high-quality accommodations, and enjoy the creative offerings of its tourism factories and attractions, creating memorable travel experiences.
Director Chen further noted that Taichung currently offers direct flights to both Hong Kong and Macau with multiple daily departures. With a travel time of less than two hours, these short-haul international routes are especially appealing to travelers from Hong Kong and Macau and represent a key advantage for central Taiwan. Combined with the region’s diverse tourism resources and rich cultural festivals, Taichung has become a major destination for independent travelers from the region. The joint promotion by the four counties and cities of central Taiwan in Hong Kong this time showcased strong marketing integration capabilities and successfully boosted the international tourism brand of central Taiwan.
According to the Tourism and Travel Bureau, the Taichung City Government will continue to collaborate with other central Taiwan county and city governments, as well as private sector partners, to strengthen regional alliances and expand overseas promotion efforts. These initiatives aim to attract more international visitors to Taichung and encourage them to fully experience local life.
