Mayors for Peace was established in 1982, with its headquarters located in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. As of August 2025, it has 8,509 member cities, aiming to rally 10,000 cities to participate together. Its mission is to promote the abolition of nuclear weapons and to address global issues that threaten human coexistence, such as hunger and poverty, refugee crises, human rights, and environmental protection, thereby realizing lasting world peace.
