To promote the distinctive appeal of winter highland tourism, the Taichung City Government’s Tourism and Travel Bureau invites the public to experience snow-country-like winter scenery without traveling abroad—right here in Taichung. As temperatures drop, Lishan, located in the high mountain region, enters its most enchanting travel season of the year. Snow-covered landscapes, blooming plum blossoms, and star-filled skies come together to showcase Taichung’s winter-exclusive alpine charm, making it a popular destination for domestic travelers planning year-end and New Year holiday getaways.
Chen Mei-hsiu, Director of the Tourism and Travel Bureau, noted that the Lishan area sits at an average elevation of approximately 2,000 meters and is adjacent to Shei-Pa National Park and Taroko National Park, offering a temperate climate and rare high-mountain scenery seldom found elsewhere in Taiwan. Each winter, visitors strolling through Lishan’s streets and Sqoyaw Tribe can often admire the magnificent sight of snow-capped peaks in the distance. When moisture and temperature conditions are favorable, snowflakes may even fall within the area itself, delighting travelers with a poetic, snow-country atmosphere.
Director Chen further pointed out that January is also the prime season for plum blossom viewing. Along the access road connecting Lishan to Wuling, plum trees in local farmers’ orchards gradually come into bloom. Wuling Farm, in particular, features extensive plantings of multiple plum blossom varieties, with their subtle fragrance drifting through the winter mountain forests and drawing numerous visitors who make the trip specifically for this seasonal spectacle. Travelers who appreciate natural floral scenery and crisp mountain air should not miss this limited-time experience.
In addition, the Tourism and Travel Bureau noted that, under the guidance of the city government, several legally registered themed homestays in the Sqoyaw Tribe area have begun operations. Surrounded by 3,000-meter peaks such as the Xueshan Range, Nanhu Mountain, and Central Range Point, guests staying overnight can gaze up at a sky filled with stars and the Milky Way after nightfall, enjoying moments of tranquility amid towering peaks and starlit skies. The tribe area also offers freshly baked desserts, produced on site and of a quality comparable to that of five-star hotels, adding warm and sweet memories to the high-mountain journey.
The Tourism and Travel Bureau reminds visitors that during the winter months, roads in the Lishan area may occasionally experience ice or snowfall. Travelers are urged to check the latest traffic and weather updates issued by the Central Weather Administration and the Highway Bureau before departure, and to ensure proper driving safety preparations to enjoy a safe and memorable “snow-country experience without leaving Taiwan.”
Furthermore, in conjunction with the “Taichung Hi8·Citywide Party” event, the Tourism and Travel Bureau is also launching an accommodation promotion titled “Be a President in Taichung – Stay and Enjoy a Presidential Suite”. Visitors are invited to plan their Taichung travel itinerary, make accommodation purchases, and register their invoices through the TC Pass app for a chance to win a stay in presidential suites at several top hotels in the city, experiencing a premium holiday. The promotion officially began on December 26, 2025, and participation is highly encouraged.
