Stepping into the Taichung Green Museumbrary is not only about experiencing the atmosphere of its architectural space, but also about embarking on an exploration journey filled with one layer of discovery after another. Since opening in December 2025, this cultural landmark, which integrates a library and an art museum, has attracted more than one million visits. The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government stated that this year it has launched the digital puzzle game “Wanderer,” featuring more than 15 levels that transform the visiting experience. Members of the public are invited to step into the venue from now on, play while taking on challenges, rediscover the Green Museumbrary through exploration, and begin a cultural adventure full of surprises.
Director Chia-Chun Chen of the Cultural Affairs Bureau said that “Wanderer” was inspired by the idea of “getting lost in space”, and for the first time transforms the architectural design and spatial aesthetics of the Green Museumbrary into “readable levels”. Starting from changes in light and shadow, shifts in circulation routes, and spatial nodes, the game creates challenge based tasks that combine observation and thinking, making the Green Museumbrary not just a venue to visit, but a cultural forest that can be read and experienced again and again.
Director Hui-Chun Tseng of the Taichung Public Library said that “Wanderer” turns a visit into a game experience, guiding the public to enter the space and notice its details in the easiest and most engaging way. The graphic clues for each level are scattered throughout the venue, hidden beside the reflecting pool, weaving among the bookshelves, or tucked away around architectural corners. By scanning the QR code for the game website with a mobile phone and entering the correct level graphic, visitors can activate the mission and begin an exploratory journey through this world class cultural landmark, gradually unlocking a rich sensory experience.
Visitors who have tried the game on site exclaimed, “It was actually hidden here!” Searching for the levels throughout the vast venue is itself a challenge, which makes the sense of achievement after successfully clearing a stage all the more rewarding. Even after multiple visits, people can still continue to discover new clues and surprises, making every visit to the Green Museumbrary a brand new exploratory experience.
Designed with no download required, “Wanderer” only requires visitors to open the website on their mobile phone and log in. They can then search throughout the venue for the key “graphics” that activate each level. After completing the interactive puzzles, they will receive “Seeds of Inspiration”. Once they have collected enough results, they can upload their “roaming footprints” to the Digital Lightscape, where these will be instantly transformed into dynamic images on the circular LED installation, leaving behind a personalized record of exploration and turning individual traces into a visual creative expression.
The Taichung Public Library added that through gamified design, the Green Museumbrary has been transformed from a static visiting space into a cultural venue that invites continuous exploration. While unlocking missions, visitors not only gain a better understanding of the architecture, but also reconnect with the relationship between people and space, and between people and the city. From now on, the public is welcome to invite friends and family to visit the Green Museumbrary, pick up a mobile phone, become a “Wanderer”, unlock surprise levels of their own, and begin a cultural exploration journey that opens a dialogue with the city.
