Taichung Transportation Services Further Upgraded! Service Adjustments on Three Major Mountain Area and Coastal Corridors to Begin on April 13, Further Improving Everyday Mobility

The Transportation Bureau of Taichung City Government will optimize the bus network in the mountain area and coastal line starting April 13 by adjusting the service frequencies and routings of 20 bus routes, including Routes 90 and 91, so that headways will be more evenly distributed and transfers along the various corridors will be more convenient. In addition, Route 235 will be withdrawn and Route 218 will replace it in serving Chenggong Road in Fengyuan District. This will also make it more convenient for residents of Shengang District to travel to the Fengyuan Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market and large retail stores. Through more precise resource allocation, commuting will become smoother and waiting for buses will provide greater peace of mind. The Transportation Bureau stated that route integration is intended to maximize the effectiveness of limited resources. Through data analysis and on site evaluation, it has reexamined ridership demand, service density, and transfer connections on each route, and has replanned service frequencies on the three major corridors of Fengyuan, Dongshi, and Heping; Fengyuan, Qingshui, and Wuqi; and Fengyuan, Dajia, and Da’an. Service schedules will be arranged more evenly, and transfer waiting times along each corridor will be reduced, thereby improving overall bus operating efficiency. In the future, during commuting peak hours, the city will strengthen mechanisms for stable and punctual departures to provide residents in the mountain area and coastal line with higher quality public transportation services. Director-General Chao-Fu Yeh stated that Fongyuan Bus, a major transport operator that has long served the mountain area and coastal line, had already assumed important local transportation responsibilities before the merger of Taichung County and Taichung City. Its service area covers Dongshi, Heping, Qingshui, Wuqi, Dajia, and Da’an, among other areas. In recent years, due to changes in the structure of the bus driver workforce and shifts in transport demand patterns, the city government has continued to guide operators in optimizing route networks and adjusting service frequencies to ensure that public transportation services remain stable and uninterrupted and that the commuting rights and interests of citizens are protected. Starting April 13, Taichung City will adjust the service frequencies and routings of multiple bus routes, including Routes 90 and 91, to avoid overlapping resources, reduce the time required for transfer waiting along each corridor, and improve overall transport efficiency and service quality. In addition, as multiple alternative routes are already available around Yuanhuan Road, Route 235 will be withdrawn on the same day. The transport resources originally assigned to that route will be reallocated to high demand routes in order to improve the overall operating efficiency of the network. Director-General Yeh pointed out that, in response to the possible impact of the withdrawal of Route 235 on service at certain stops, the Transportation Bureau has simultaneously planned supporting measures. Three bus stops along Chenggong Road, namely Fengyuan Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market, Fengyuan Labor Insurance Bureau, and Chenggong Yuanhuan West Road Intersection, will be served by Route 218 in order to maintain uninterrupted service. As a result, residents along Housheng Road and Fengzhou Road in Shengang District will also be able to take buses directly to the Fengyuan Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market, Carrefour, and other large retail stores, thereby strengthening the living functions of Shengang District. As we look ahead, the Transportation Bureau will continue to improve the route network through data analysis and rolling reviews, and is committed to building a smart, stable, and balanced urban transportation system for a livable city. The Bureau also reminds the public that, starting April 13, service frequencies on multiple Fongyuan Bus routes will be consolidated and adjusted. Citizens are advised to make use of the Taichung Bus Information System or the Taichung Go app to stay updated on the latest timetables and real time information so that they can plan their trips in advance.
