The Dragon Boat Festival is an important traditional holiday and also a significant occasion in folk custom for praying for blessings, attracting good fortune, and dispelling evil and impurity. Taichung’s most representative Dragon Boat Festival folk event, Noon Water Drawing at Jianjing of Tiezhen Mountain, will take place during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. This year, the Tourism and Travel Bureau of Taichung City Government has chosen A Lucky Dragon Boat Festival, Good Fortune Right Away as the event theme. Combining the tradition of drawing noon water with parent-child interactive performances, an egg-standing experience, and a display of popular lantern installations from the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival, the event invites people from across Taiwan to visit the Dajia Tiezhen Mountain Jianjing Recreation Area, experience the charm of traditional folk culture, and also explore Taichung’s major attractions while enjoying a Dragon Boat Festival filled with good fortune.
The Tourism and Travel Bureau stated that the Jianjing noon water event at Tiezhen Mountain attracts nearly one thousand participants every year and has become one of the most representative Dragon Boat Festival celebrations in central Taiwan. This year’s theme, A Lucky Dragon Boat Festival, Good Fortune Right Away, cleverly uses a homophonic pun to convey the meaning of immediate good fortune, wishing everyone a prosperous year after drawing noon water. Starting at 10 a.m. on the day of the event, 500 limited edition noon water commemorative bottle vouchers will be distributed, while supplies last. The public is welcome to take advantage of the opportunity to participate.
The Tourism and Travel Bureau pointed out that this year’s program is rich and diverse. In addition to the much loved Lu Papa Storytelling Theater, which will introduce the legend of Jianjing and Dragon Boat Festival customs in a lively and engaging way, the venue will also feature clown balloon performances, face changing performances, an egg-standing experience, and an egg-standing contest. These activities will allow visitors of all ages to learn about traditional culture in a festive and joyful atmosphere.
Mei-Hsiu Chen, Director General of the Tourism and Travel Bureau of Taichung City Government, stated that the Dragon Boat Festival has long been regarded as an important occasion for welcoming blessings and auspiciousness, and every year the opening of Jianjing for noon water drawing draws large crowds. This year, the much loved spirit deer lantern installations Green Oak and Grain Ear from the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival have been specially moved to the event site for display, accompanying visitors in praying for blessings and good fortune. Members of the public are welcome to take photos and check in. As the Dragon Boat Festival coincides with a long holiday, everyone is also invited to come to Tiezhen Mountain to draw noon water and pray for peace, health, and good fortune for themselves and their loved ones, while also experiencing Taichung’s rich tourism appeal in greater depth.
The Scenic Area Administration of Taichung City Government added that members of the public who are unable to attend in person may also take part in the online activity How Much Do You Know About Dragon Boat Festival Customs. Anyone who correctly answers questions related to Dragon Boat Festival customs will have a chance to win one of 20 limited edition noon water commemorative bottles and mugwort sachets. Information about the activity will be announced on the Facebook fan page of the Scenic Area Administration of Taichung City Government. The public is welcome to go online and participate starting at 10 a.m. on the morning of the Dragon Boat Festival.
