Central Taiwan’s most iconic esports event is set to level up once again. The Taichung Esports Carnival, the city’s signature esports brand, is entering its eighth edition and is officially scheduled to take place on August 29 and 30 this year. For the first time, the event will cross into a new domain by partnering with Hanshin Intercontinental Shopping Plaza, a new landmark in Beitun. By combining high intensity competition with the leisure functions of a major shopping center, the event aims to create an esports experience that is more closely connected to daily urban life. This year’s featured competitions focus on the globally popular tactical shooter VALORANT and the classic fighting game Street Fighter 6, which also aligns with the esports events of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. With a total prize pool of NT$150,000, online registration has been open nationwide since June 21, inviting top esports players from across Taiwan to compete on the same stage.
Chih-Hsiang Yu, Director of the Sports Bureau of Taichung City Government, stated that this year’s Esports Carnival breaks away from the framework of traditional tournaments by entering a large scale fashion shopping plaza for the first time, allowing esports to move beyond conventional venues and connect with urban leisure, family entertainment, and youth culture. On the first day of the event, August 29, a major featured program is also planned, with legendary esports teams invited to appear alongside rising local women’s esports teams and elite university squads in an exciting Esports Celebrity Showdown. In addition to the high tension matches on stage, the venue will also feature family friendly fun competitions, a next generation gaming experience zone, and a themed creative market, allowing people of all ages to experience the appeal of esports and technology culture firsthand. The Sports Bureau stated that esports players from across Taiwan will first compete in intense online elimination rounds during the online preliminaries of the Esports Carnival in order to secure a place in the on site finals. During the live competition event at the end of August, the top eight players in Street Fighter 6 will engage in precise and thrilling head to head battles in front of a giant screen, while the top four VALORANT teams will compete for ultimate glory on the Hanshin Intercontinental stage through tactical planning, team coordination, and precise execution. The organizer hopes that through high level competition and close interaction on site, the public will be able to experience the excitement of live esports spectating.

The championship team of VALORANT will take home NT$50,000, while the runner up team will receive NT$30,000. The Street Fighter 6 champion will receive NT$30,000, while the runner up will receive NT$20,000. Registration deadlines for both popular competitions are now approaching. Registration for VALORANT closes on July 17, and registration for Street Fighter 6 closes on July 25.
