The highly anticipated Bib Gourmand list for the “MICHELIN Guide Taiwan 2026” was announced last week on August 14, with a total of 23 restaurants in Taichung receiving recognition. Among them, “Don Moo” in North District was selected for the first time, while nine restaurants have now been recognized for seven consecutive years, demonstrating both the fresh energy of Taichung’s emerging dining scene and the deep-rooted appeal of its longstanding establishments. The Taichung City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau welcomes visitors from across Taiwan to use the list as a guide to explore markets, shopping districts, and distinctive restaurants, while continuing to discover local culinary highlights. From everyday local snacks to refined dishes, visitors can experience the diverse and vibrant appeal of Taichung’s food tourism.
Mei-hsiu Chen, Director-General of the Tourism and Travel Bureau, said that food is the most direct and heartfelt way for travelers to get to know a city. It not only enriches the travel experience, but also leaves visitors with lasting memories of the city. Taichung has received recognition from the MICHELIN Guide for seven consecutive years, with its dining quality and diverse culinary character continuing to draw international attention. In recent years, the city government has actively promoted local cuisine through diverse marketing efforts. In addition to organizing the “Taichung Hot Pot and Grill Festival”, the city will also launch branded campaigns such as “Taichung 100 Bowls” this year, connecting local businesses, shopping districts, and tourism itineraries. By combining international recognition with local food marketing, Taichung continues to strengthen its brand as a “City of Gastronomy”.
Director-General Chen noted that Bib Gourmand selections are made based on local price levels. In Taiwan, the distinction represents places where consumers can enjoy three quality dishes for under NT$1,000. This year’s newly listed restaurant, “Don Moo” in North District, specializes in homestyle duck dishes. Its signature “dry noodles with duck in chili oil and garlic” delivers a rich and layered flavor, adding a new highlight to Taichung’s local food scene. The restaurant uses freshly prepared duck each day and presents the simple, comforting flavors of home cooking through delicate seasoning. In addition, nine restaurants have been selected for the Bib Gourmand list for seven consecutive years: “Shanghai Wei Ming”, “Fu Gui Ting”, “Fu Din Wang”, “A Kun Mian”, and “Fan Ji Jin Zhi Yuan” in Central District; “Fu Zhuang Yuan” and “Xin Yuan” in West District; “Hu She Yu Wei” in Nantun District; and “Peng Cheng Tang” in Taiping District. Newly listed restaurants showcase the city’s creativity and vitality, while returning longtime establishments demonstrate the dedication of culinary professionals who have upheld quality over the years. Together, they build the depth and distinct identity of Taichung’s culinary brand, while helping drive tourism, shopping district activity, and dining consumption.
From traditional markets and distinctive shopping districts to the city’s mountain, coastal, Tun, and urban living circles, Taichung is full of flavors worth making a special trip to discover. The Tourism and Travel Bureau will continue to connect cuisine with attractions, festivals, and accommodations to create more diverse culinary itineraries, attracting domestic and international travelers to Taichung to savor the city, extend their stays, and boost local consumption.
