Taichung’s culinary scene has once again received international recognition. The full list of The MICHELIN Guide Taiwan 2026 was announced today (July 21). The Taichung City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau said six restaurants in Taichung received Michelin star recognition, earning a total of eight stars, including one three-star restaurant and five one-star restaurants. In addition, two restaurants received MICHELIN Green Stars, 34 restaurants were selected by the MICHELIN Guide, and 23 restaurants received Bib Gourmand recognition, bringing the citywide total to 63 listed restaurants. Among them, SHINEYU, which was selected by the MICHELIN Guide last year, was promoted to one star this year, earning its first star. Sur-, while retaining its one-star recognition, also received a MICHELIN Green Star for the first time. These achievements demonstrate Taichung’s diverse strengths in both culinary excellence and sustainable practices, further elevating the city’s reputation as a culinary destination.

Mei-Hsiu Chen, Director-General of the Taichung City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau, said that food is the most direct and heartfelt way for travelers to get to know a city. Taichung is home to agricultural products from its mountain areas, seafood from its coastal districts, and a diverse urban food culture. As culinary professionals continue to cultivate local ingredients and refine their cooking techniques and service quality, the city has gradually built greater international visibility. This year’s Michelin-starred lineup has grown steadily. Taichung not only retained the strength of its three-star restaurant, but also saw a new restaurant promoted to star status and a new Green Star recognition, fully demonstrating the continued innovation and improvement of the city’s dining industry.

Director-General Chen pointed out that JL STUDIO, the world’s first MICHELIN three-star Singaporean cuisine restaurant, has retained its three-star honor for the fourth consecutive year. It continues to combine Taiwan’s local ingredients with modern culinary techniques, Singaporean food culture, and the use of spices to create cuisine with refined layers and a distinctive style. SHINEYU, meanwhile, was promoted from a newly selected restaurant in last year’s MICHELIN Guide to a one-star restaurant this year. With Cantonese cuisine at its core, it reinterprets classic, labor-intensive traditional dishes, showcasing the team’s continued refinement and new momentum as it moves from selection to star recognition. The other one-star restaurants include Oretachi No Nikuya, which continues to be recognized for its premium meats and professional grilling techniques; Sur-, which draws on Taiwan’s food culture and uses contemporary culinary methods to present the connections among seasons, land, and people; L’Atelier par Yao, which interprets modern French cuisine through Asian elements; and YUENJI, which starts from the flavors and food memories of Taiwanese home cooking to give traditional cuisine a refined and contemporary expression. This year, a total of six Michelin-starred restaurants in Taichung earned eight stars, with both the number of starred restaurants and the total number of stars remaining the same as last year.

In terms of sustainable dining, the Tourism and Travel Bureau said Taichung has two restaurants receiving MICHELIN Green Stars this year, “Sur” and “Tu Pang”, an increase of one from last year. “Sur” received the Green Star for the first time, incorporating Taiwan’s food culture, talent cultivation, and sustainability concepts into its restaurant operations. “Tu Pang” continues to focus on local and seasonal ingredients, conveying the character of the land through cuisine. Through different approaches, the two restaurants put environmentally friendly and sustainable operations into practice, jointly demonstrating Taichung’s dining strengths in both flavor and sustainability.

The Tourism and Travel Bureau also said Taichung added seven MICHELIN Selected restaurants this year, including Nikuryouri Fu, Sushi Noru, Yun, Zizaitian, Huizhong Vegetarian, Munchi, and "zài." “Nikuryouri Fu” centers on meat-focused cuisine, combining Chinese, Western, and Japanese cooking techniques to delicately present the flavors of different cuts of meat. “Sushi Noru” specializes in omakase sushi and dishes served with sake, selecting seasonal seafood and presenting its flavors through techniques such as salt curing, vinegar curing, and simmering in sauce. “Yun” combines Asian flavors with French culinary techniques to showcase creative dining characteristics. “Zizaitian” presents fresh ideas through creative vegetarian dipping noodles. “Huizhong Vegetarian” offers a diverse range of refined vegetarian dishes. “Munchi” uses modern culinary methods to interpret Asian flavors, while "zài" presents the character of seasonal ingredients through techniques such as fermentation, smoking, and aging. The seven restaurants each have their own distinctive style, showcasing the richness and innovative energy of Taichung’s dining market while bringing the vitality of a new generation of culinary professionals to the city’s food landscape.

The Tourism and Travel Bureau said it will continue to promote Taichung’s recognized restaurants through the MICHELIN Guide, while connecting markets, shopping districts, cultural venues, and surrounding attractions to lead domestic and international travelers in exploring Taichung’s diverse food culture in depth. This year, the Bureau has also partnered with United Daily News for the first time to organize “Taichung 100 Bowls”, discovering everyday foods with distinctive Taichung character through the flavors of daily life, food memories, and local culture. The initiative allows internationally acclaimed starred cuisine and beloved everyday dishes from neighborhood lanes to complement one another, showcasing Taichung’s urban charm, which combines international standards with a strong sense of everyday life. The Tourism and Travel Bureau also sincerely invites domestic and international travelers to follow the MICHELIN Guide in exploring Taichung, from three-star, one-star, and Green Star restaurants to markets, shopping districts, and lane-side delicacies, and plan a culinary journey that leads from the palate into the heart of the city.
