Want to take the stage and show off your singing voice while enjoying authentic Southeast Asian cuisine? The Labor Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government will hold the 11th “Amazing Migrant Voices” ASEAN Good Voice Singing Contest at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, at Taichung Park. Registration is open from today through August 25. The contest offers gift certificates worth a total of NT$69,800, with the champion receiving gift certificates worth NT$15,000. Foreign nationals and new residents who legally work, live, or study in Taichung are welcome to sign up.
The Labor Affairs Bureau said the “Amazing Migrant Voices” singing contest is an important annual multicultural exchange event in Taichung. Through music, food, and cultural experiences, the Bureau hopes to encourage people of different nationalities to get to know one another and allow more residents to see the passion and vitality of foreign nationals living in Taichung. Whether performing pop songs, classic folk songs, or traditional songs rich in hometown character, participants are encouraged to bravely step onto the stage, share cultural stories through song, and create unforgettable memories. This year’s event is expected to accept 40 contestants or groups. Registration is open to individuals and groups, with limited slots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligible foreign nationals and new residents are encouraged to seize the opportunity to register, take the stage, and sing their own brilliant performance.
The Labor Affairs Bureau noted that this year’s event centers on “musical exchange, shared cuisine, and cultural inclusion”. In addition to an exciting singing contest, the event will feature carefully planned food stalls with international flair, bringing together specialty dishes from Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and other countries. Visitors can enjoy moving performances while tasting classic dishes from different countries and experiencing the culinary appeal of diverse cultures. Interactive challenge activities will also be arranged on site, inviting residents and foreign nationals to take part together, learn about the cultural characteristics of different countries up close, and experience Taichung’s diverse and inclusive cityscape.
The Labor Affairs Bureau added that, to encourage more foreign nationals to take the stage, a special early-bird bonus is being offered this year. Anyone who completes registration and participates in the full contest will receive one NT$200 gift card, while supplies last. Participants can enjoy the fun of performing on stage and take home a gift as well.
