The 2026 Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival will take place from October 31 to November 22, spanning four weekends. The colorful exhibition will be open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Nursery No. 2 of the Seed Improvement and Propagation Station in Xinshe District. This year marks the festival’s 15th anniversary. Under the theme “Dessert Kingdom”, the event is partnering with Sanrio and bringing together seven Sanrio characters, Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin, Piano, and Hangyodon, to create seven themed areas. Together, they will form a dreamy kingdom full of imagination, inviting visitors from across Taiwan into a fantasy world where seas of flowers meet sweet desserts.

This year’s “Dessert Kingdom” theme reflects Taichung’s rich pastry and food culture. In recent years, the City Government has continued to promote local pastries through events such as the Taichung International Pastry Festival and Taichung Top 10 Souvenirs, turning the flavors of Taichung into part of the city’s culture. Tourism and Travel Bureau Director Mei-Hsiu Chen said this year’s festival brings together Taichung’s deep pastry culture, floral design, and interactive experiences. With even more imagination, desserts are transformed into floral landscapes and themed installations, blending the personalities of the Sanrio characters with dessert imagery to create dreamy scenes, each with its own charm. From “Icing Garden”, where a purple sea of flowers meets doughnuts, to “Sundae Paradise”, surrounded by a warm yellow flower carpet, along with dessert elements such as strawberries, cotton candy, and ice cream, the festival paints a colorful and varied dessert world.

The Tourism and Travel Bureau noted that the Flower Carpet Festival has continued to create strong tourism benefits in recent years. In 2025, it attracted nearly 4 million visits and generated more than NT$9.2 billion in tourism value, setting a new record for the event. As the festival celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, it brings together Sanrio characters, dessert culture, and floral art, continuing its blend of art, culture, and tourism. Flowers are no longer just scenery. They become a creative medium for city culture and local stories. The event is expected to spark another wave of flower-viewing excitement, with attendance expected to surpass 4 million visits and continue driving tourism and the local economy in Taichung.

The official event website has also gone live, offering the latest event updates, themed area introductions, and transportation information. Residents and visitors from across Taiwan are invited to plan ahead, step into “Dessert Kingdom”, and celebrate the festival’s brilliant 15th anniversary together.
